I came across a write up by one Hadiza Nasir Ahmad, Esq titled โ€œAbba, learn from Ganduje before Kano collapses.โ€ After reading it, I realized that the writer is either not living in Kano, is unaware of the facts, or is simply politically aligned in a way that prevents her from seeing the real efforts of the present administration under His Excellency, Governor Abba K Yusuf to support security in the state. I will respond to her claims with facts and provide reference publications at the end of this reply along with pictorial evidence. All of the assertions made in her write up are incorrect and do not reflect the true situation in Kano State. It is important to set the record straight so that the public is not misled.

First, it is false to claim that the state government is silent on security matters. The present administration has done far more than most states facing similar challenges. In November 2024, the Governor distributed brand new Toyota Hilux vehicles and other operational vehicles to all police stations across the 44 local government areas. Kano is also the first state in the entire country to establish the Anti Illicit Drugs and Phone Snatching Taskforce, which works closely with security agencies. Only a few weeks ago, the Commandant of the taskforce was tragically killed in his home, yet the writer appears unaware of their existence or of the fact that phone and vehicle snatching in the metropolis has reduced significantly because of their operations.

Are the nearly 20000 solar street lights installed across the state not measures to reduce insecurity? Has she not seen the various forms of support given to security agencies, many of which are not publicly announced for security reasons? These actions show clear commitment, not silence.

It is also untrue to say there is no visible leadership or action. Just last week, the Governor provided vehicles and motorcycles to the Nigeria Army to help them respond to the recent incidents in Tsanyawa, Shanono and other affected areas. Additionally, hundreds of trained neighborhood guards from various local governments already have their operational vehicles ready at Government House. His Excellency has signed the law establishing the guards, and they will be fully deployed once their local government offices are completed. This is evidence of planning and readiness, not inaction.

Advert

The attempt to compare the present situation with the previous administration is also misleading. Insecurity is a national challenge, and the writer conveniently failed to mention that security control rests with the Federal Government. The Governor does not control the police, the army or the civil defence. He holds regular state security council meetings, attends to the urgent needs of security agencies and has been consistent in doing so. The state government can only support, and that is exactly what this administration has been doing. Blaming the state for matters under federal authority is unfair and politically motivated.

Another important point the writer ignored is that hundreds of police officers have been stationed at the unofficial residence of the dethroned Emir of Kano who currently resides in the Nasarawa Emirs Palace. These officers were originally deployed to vulnerable local governments like Tsanyawa and Shanono. If we are serious about improving security, they should be returned to their proper duty posts instead of guarding one individual. Operational vehicles from different local governments can also be seen parked there. This is a critical issue the writer completely overlooked.

The claim that the government is not coordinating with security agencies is also false. His Excellency has been meeting regularly with heads of security agencies and supporting them with logistics, intelligence and operational resources. The allegation of lack of coordination does not reflect reality.

Equally incorrect is the claim that nothing is being done to address farmers and herders conflicts. His Excellency created the Kano State Ministry of Livestock Development, the first of its kind in Kano state, to address such conflicts through dialogue and peaceful engagement. As the Honourable Commissioner, I have personally visited several local governments, met with leaders of farmers and herders and strengthened local peace committees to prevent conflict. Many of these interventions are not meant for public reporting, but they are taking place consistently and effectively.

In conclusion, the write up presents a one sided and politically charged narrative that ignores the genuine efforts of the state government. Kano is not collapsing as claimed. The administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is working daily to support security agencies, strengthen community protection and respond to emerging challenges. Security requires truth, unity and responsibility. What we need now is support and accurate information, not exaggerated claims designed to mislead the public.

JUST IN: National Assembly to Re-gazette Tax Laws Amid Controversy

Published

By Yusuf Danjuma Yunusa

The National Assembly has directed the Clerk to re-gazette four major tax reform acts and issue Certified True Copies of the versions officially passed by parliament, following public controversy over discrepancies in the published laws.

In a Friday statement, House Spokesman Akin Rotimi said the leadership of both chambers authorized the move to “protect the integrity of the legislative record,” describing it as an administrative step to accurately reflect parliamentary decisions.

The directive addresses growing scrutiny over the Nigeria Tax Act (2025), Nigeria Tax Administration Act (2025), Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act (2025), and Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act (2025)โ€”particularly concerning harmonization of bills, documentation sent for presidential assent, and the versions eventually published in the Official Gazette.

Rotimi emphasized that the legislature is addressing the matter within its constitutional authority. Last week, the House formed a seven-member Ad Hoc Committee to investigate the legislative and administrative handling of the acts.

“The Committee, alongside relevant National Assembly bodies, is conducting an institutional review to establish the sequence of events and identify any contributing factors,” he stated, noting the review will examine potential “lapses, irregularities, or external interferences.”

The process, he added, complies fully with the Constitution, the Acts Authentication Act, and parliamentary standing orders.

While the re-gazetting aims to “clear any ambiguity,” Rotimi clarified that the review “does not constitute, imply, or concede any defect in the exercise of legislative authority.” He also stated the action is without prejudice to other arms of government and does not affect existing rights or legal processes.

Reaffirming its commitment to constitutionalism and the rule of law, the House pledged to take “appropriate corrective measures” if procedural refinements are needed.

The public was urged to allow the institutional process to proceed “without speculation or conjecture.”

Airstrikes: Activist Sowore Decries Reckless Breach of Sovereignty By the U.S Government

Published

By Yusuf Danjuma Yunusa

Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has issued a fierce condemnation of a confirmed U.S. military airstrike inside Nigeria, labeling the action a dangerous breach of sovereignty and an โ€œimperialist moveโ€ by President Donald Trump.

Soworeโ€™s warning follows President Trumpโ€™s announcement on Truth Social that he had ordered a โ€œpowerful and deadly strikeโ€ against ISIS fighters in northwest Nigeria. Trump justified the operation, stating the militants had been โ€œviciously killing, primarily, innocent Christiansโ€ and that he had delivered promised retribution: โ€œthere was hell to pay.โ€

While the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed the strike was conducted โ€œat the request of Nigerian authorities,โ€ Sowore argued that direct foreign military intervention is a catastrophic precedent.

โ€œNobody should be rejoicing about this,โ€ Sowore stated. โ€œThe U.S. could help the Nigerian military, but U.S. military carrying out an attack inside Nigeria is extremely dangerous, reckless, and bad.โ€

He described the event as โ€œa sad day for the so-called African liberation and Independence.โ€

The strike triggered panic on the ground in Sokoto State. Residents of Jabo village reported a sudden, loud explosion on Christmas night, with many fearing an imminent attack. โ€œIt happened suddenlyโ€ฆ The explosion caused fear, but thank God it did not land among people,โ€ one eyewitness said.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed gratitude for โ€œNigerian government support & cooperationโ€ and ominously added there would be โ€œmore to come.โ€

The operation marks a sharp and controversial escalation of U.S. counter-terrorism activity in West Africa, raising urgent questions about sovereignty, foreign intervention, and the future of regional security partnerships.

Nigeria Aides U.S in Sokoto Airstrike Against ISIS

By Yusuf Danjuma Yunusa

President Donald J. Trump has announced that the United States carried out targeted military strikes against ISISโ€“affiliated militants in north-west Nigeria, marking a sharp escalation in American counter-terrorism operations in West Africa.

In a late-night statement published on Truth Social, the U.S. President said the operation was conducted under his direct orders as Commander-in-Chief, describing it as โ€œa powerful and deadly strikeโ€ aimed at extremist elements responsible for repeated attacks in the region.

According to Mr Trump, the militants had been involved in brutal assaults on local communities, particularly targeting Christian populations. He said he had previously warned the group of consequences if the violence continued.

โ€œTonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christiansโ€ฆ I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,โ€ the statement read in part.

He added that the โ€œDepartment of War executed numerous perfect strikes,โ€ asserting that the U.S. would not allow extremist groups to flourish under his leadership.

While the President praised the American military, he also issued a stern warning to the militants, saying there would be further consequences if attacks on civilians persisted.

Confirming the development, the Nigerian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that it provided the intelligence needed to the United States government concerning the airstrike.

“In line with established international practice and bilateral understandings, this cooperation includes the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination, and other forms of support consistent with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security,โ€ said the ministry.

It further stated that Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.

On the particular location of the strike in the northwestern part of the country, netizens, particularly from Sokoto State, have confirmed that a rocket landed in Jabo Ward, under Tambuwal LG of Sokoto State, Nigeria this same night.

Similarly, the United States Africa Command(AFRICOM), an organization responsible for the United States military operations in the continent, in a series of posts on X, said the airstrikes were launched based on requests of the Nigerian government.

โ€œAFRICOM conducted a strike at the request of Nigerian authorities in Sokoto State killing multiple ISIS terrorists. Lethal strikes against ISIS demonstrate the strength of our military and our commitment to eliminating terrorist threats against Americans at home and abroad,” the statement reads.
