Just In: Nigeria Police Bans Edul-Fitr Durbar

The Nigeria Police Force Kano State Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Ibrahim Adamu Bakori made the announcement during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday, emphasizing the need for a peaceful and secure environment during the festivities.
According to CP Bakori, intelligence reports indicated plans by certain elements to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities.
Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to use the Durbar for violent acts, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state,” he stated.
He assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard Eid prayers at designated locations. He also urged worshippers to comply with security guidelines, including avoiding suspicious objects and refraining from activities such as horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving.
The decision follows an earlier announcement by the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, who stated that he had halted plans for the Sallah Durbar in the interest of peace.
Ado Bayero had previously requested police protection for Sallah activities, but concerns over potential unrest arose, especially as the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, had also begun preparations for the festivities following a directive from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
