IG Withdraws Police Attached To Kano Anti-Corruption Agency

About 40 policemen providing security and investigation support to Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission have been withdrawn by the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The withdrawal follows investigations of multi-billion naira corruption against the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the IGP gave the order for the withdrawal of the policemen to the State Commissioner of Police Usaini Gumel on Thursday.

affected policemen read: “Order and Directives to all officers and men of the Nigeria police force attached to public complaint and Anti corruption commission Kano State are warned directed to report back to Command headquarters with immediate effect those with high profile cases to hand over such to Head of Operations immediately all to acknowledge please.”

A credible source at the commission told our reporter that some of the policemen are helping the commission anti-corruption investigations, providing security to the commission’s headquarters and other seized properties under investigation.

When contacted on the matter, the force public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, neither responded to a call or reply to a message sent to his known phone number at the time of filing this report.

ECOWAS Parliament Elects First Female Speaker

The 6th ECOWAS Parliament has elected Ibrahim Maimunatu, a female from Togo, as the Speaker of the Parliament. She is the first female Speaker to be elected in the parliament’s history.

 

During her investiture speech, the newly elected Speaker expressed gratitude to the Parliamentarians for entrusting the fate of the parliament for the next four years to her.

“I’m grateful for the honour conferred on me. I commended the Chairman of the ECOWAS and Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed for entrusting the 6th Legislature to my country.”

This is the first time the leadership entrusted to a woman, this, has proven the vision of ECOWAS youth and women should be protected. This has further demonstrated the aim and passion of Togo President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé who always support youths and women, particularly with the introduction of the legislation to support youths and women in Togo”

The new Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Maimunatu assured that she will leave no stone unturned to meet the expectations of the member states.

She further commended the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Barau Jibrin, who has demonstrated his skills, commitment, determination, and leadership style in bringing the Parliament to its current stage.

She lamented that the reinsurgence of Terrorism and coup d’ etat in Niger Republic Burkina Faso and Mali and Climate Change were some of the issues bedevelling the sub region.

She lamented that the resurgence of terrorism and coups d’état in Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, and Mali, as well as climate change, were some of the issues plaguing the sub-region.

She stressed that the Parliament would collaborate with member states to address the challenges facing the West African region.

She maintained that the Parliament will work together towards realisation of its 5 pillars envisaged in vision 2050, including a secure, stable and peaceful region; a region endowed with strong institutions, and that complies with the rule of law and fundamental freedoms; a fully integrated and prosperous region; a region mobilized for transformation, inclusive and sustainable development.

After she delivered her inaugural speech, Ibrahima Maimunatu declared the 2nd Extraordinary Session held in Kano closed.

Earlier, Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Barau Jibrin noted that Extraordinary Session held in ancient city of Kano was to bring the Parliament to the people of Kano State.

Breaking: Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Reinstate Sunusi II

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has  reinstated 14 th Emir of Kano Muhammad Sunusi II.

The Governor made the announcement after signing the bill into law at Kano Government House.

The Governor directed the  former Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye are to vacate thier palaces within 48 hours from 5pm today and handover all properties in thier possession to Commissioner for Local Government/Deputy Governor.

– after signing  the Kano Emirates Bill into law, repealing the previous law enacted by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Governor Yusuf signed the bill this evening at the Government House following a closed-door session with state lawmakers led by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore.

The law, passed by the state assembly today after its first, second, and third readings, abolishes the four Emirates created by former Governor Ganduje on May 8, 2019.

Kingmakers Arrive at Govt House, Governor Yusuf in Closed-Door Meeting with Kano Assembly

Kingmakers in Kano have arrived at the Kano State Government House in anticipation of the announcement of the new Emir of Kano following the sacking of five Emirs appointed by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

At the time of filing this report, two of the kingmakers were seen by Nigerian Tracker being led to the Governor’s office by Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani, the Madakin Kano and head of the kingmakers, along with Alhaji Sarkin Abdullahi Ibrahim Malaman Kano.

An impeccable source informed Nigerian Tracker that Governor Abba Yusuf has entered into a closed-door meeting with Kano legislators who repealed former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s laws that appointed the five Emirs for Kano.
