Kano loses 2 corps members, 12 repeat service year

Two NYSC corps members of Batch A, deployed to kano state this year died, and 12 others are to repeat service year.

State coordinator of the NYSC , Hajiya Aisha Muhammad, made the disclosure on Thursday at the passing out of 1, 936 members of the batch A in kano.

She said the two corps members died during the service year while 12 others had their service years extended for violating rules and regulations.

Muhammad commended the state government, and the people of the state for the moral support accorded to the corps members during their service to the state.

She, however, appealed to the state governor to resume the payment of state government’s allowances to corps members serving in the state.

“The gesture if accomplished will go a long way into motivating the corps members to redouble their efforts towards serving their fatherland with diligence and enthusiasm,’ Muhammad said.

The coordinator also called for the provision of accommodations to corps members posted to 44 local government areas of the state especially rural areas and reiterated NYSC’s commitment to partner with the state government in all areas of need.

She urged the corps members to utilise the skills acquired during the service year and be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

In his remarks, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of kano state, said the state has been benefitting from the hard work and selfless service of the Corps members since inception of the scheme.

The governor who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, said the corps members would be remembered by the good people of Kano State.

Earlier, the chairman governing board of NYSC in Kano, Prof. Abdu Salihi, enjoined the corps members to strive hard to build upon the bond of unity they have established here with Kano people. Advised them to utilize the skills they acquired and become self-employed

Gwale Old Boys Association (GOBA) Announces Annual General Meeting and Election of National Executives

The National President of the Gwale Old Boys Association (GOBA), Engr. Hassan Abdulkadir, on behalf of the national officials, has cordially invited members to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the General Election of the National Executives Council. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM prompt at the Murtala Mahd Hall, GGSS Gwale.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Bashir Habib Yahya, the association emphasized the importance of the AGM and the election in shaping the future of GOBA. The meeting will provide an opportunity for members to engage in discussions, review the association’s activities, and elect new leaders who will steer the association towards achieving its goals.

The AGM is expected to attract a large turnout of members, including former students of Government Unity College, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State, one of the renowned secondary schools in Northern Nigeria. BIKOBA Prepares for AGM with Lecture on Youth Opportunities in Innovative Agriculture

Arrangements have been concluded for the successful conduct of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Birnin-Kudu Old Boys Association (BIKOBA), the umbrella association of the Old Students of Government Unity College, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State—one of the famous secondary schools/colleges in Northern Nigeria.

The occasion, scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the Murtala Mohammed Library Hall along Ahmadu Bello Way, Kano, will feature a public lecture to be delivered by Prof. Ibrahim Baba Mohammed, a distinguished agronomist with the Faculty of Agriculture, Bayero University, Kano. The lecture, titled “Unlocking Opportunities for Youths in Innovative Agriculture: A Focus on Kano and Jigawa States in Northern Nigeria,” aims to attract and stimulate students to engage in modern farming activities at an early age, with a view to tapping the untapped agricultural potential in abundance in the region for food sufficiency, security, and economic gains.

Alhaji Basiru Mohammed Sanusi, the Galadiman Dutse, will chair the occasion, with Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State and Senator Mustafa Habeeb as Guests of Honor, while former Governors of Kano and Jigawa States, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Alhaji Sule Lamido, will serve as Special Guests of Honor. The National President of BIKOBA, Alhaji Ja’afar Usman Muhammad (Turakin Gaya), will be the Chief Host of the event.

Major highlights of the AGM include the election of new executive committee members of the association and the presentation of an audited account report containing the financial statement of the association for subsequent ratification and approval by the general assembly members.

The occasion will also feature the launch of a book written by a member of the Class of ’86 Chapter about the history of Government Unity College Birnin-Kudu and its contributions to the development of the education sector in the Northern region and beyond.
