Defence Minister Vows To Upscale Military Equipment Production Capabilities

The Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) has assured on President Muhammadu  Buhari’s commitment to improving the current trend and tempo in the production of the Military equipment for enhanced combat efficiency of the Armed Forces.

General Magashi gave this assurance at a two-  day Stakeholders Public hearing on a Bill for an Act to Enact Nigerian Local Content Act to provide for the development, Regulation and Enforcement of the  Nigerian Content, organised by the Joint Senate and House Committees on Content Development and Monitoring.

The Minister of Defence who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence, Babangida Hussaini said under his watch, the  Presidential Executive Order 003 and 005 of 2017 and 2018 have engendered a new template in empowering the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to attain higher indigenous productive levels.

He said the Military is well-motivated, mobilised and empowered to look inward by the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces to professionally implement the Local Content policy towards mitigating the problems associated with the acquisition of platforms from foreign countries.  The Minister buttressed his submission by citing the recently inaugurated first locally manufactured Armoured  Vehicles, MRAPS and some range of Defence weapons.

According to him, they include, Munitions, Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) as well as other related items and Civilian Products manufactured by the Military engineers at DICON.

While assuring the joint Committee Co-chaired by Senator Teslim Folarin and his Reps Counterpart, Legor Idagbo of sustaining the Military’s trajectory in blazing the trail in the nation’s technological development, he said the locally produced fighting equipment have drastically saved the country huge cost of importation of the military hardware in hard currencies.

In a statement by Muhammad Abdulkadiri the senior special assistant said While at the National Assembly, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence, Hussaini Babangida attended the Public hearing of the House Committee on Public Accounts chaired by Honourable Wole Oke who adjourned the appearance of the Ministry till next week.

Sultan of Sokoto Urges Nigerians to Stop Criticizing Leaders and Allow God to Deal With Them

Nigerians have been urged to desist from castigating their leaders and all those in authority.

This call was made to Nigerians by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III on Monday at the the Regional Conference on Climate Change-Induced Conflicts in Northern Nigeria hosted in Kaduna.

According to the Sultan, it is important that Nigerians rather than insult their leaders, they should allow God to really with them.

He also urgee Nigerians to contibue praying for their keaders and tne nation as a whole.

He further called on religious leadera accros Nigeria to quit misleadinh members of ghwir congregation.

“A lot of people say we have never had it so bad, but no matter how difficult it is, ease will come. We believe nothing lasts forever.

“Nothing bad and nothing good lasts forever. Let us intensify prayers in our congregations and encourage our followers to pray for our leaders.

“We will not castigate them; we will allow Almighty Allah to deal with them as He wishes and He will,” the Sultan notes.

Breaking: Court Drops Charges Against Minors

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday struck out the charges brought against a total of 119 #EndBadGovernance protesters.

All 119 protesters were arraigned on Friday, November 1 on charges bordering on Treason felony, inciting to mutiny, among others.

The defendants were arraigned in two batches at the previous proceeding.

The first batch comprised a total of 76 protesters which included 32 minors and the second batch a total of 43 protesters.

The trial judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, struck out the suit following an application by the counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation, M. D Abubakar, to take over and discontinue the matter.
