AFRI-LAW Calls On President Buhari To Re-appoint Abdullahi Gana as CG NSCDC

The Afri –Law foundation has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to re-appoint Abdullahi Gana as CG Nigeria security and civil Defence corp.

 

In a statement released to Newsmen by the founder of Afri-law Okereke Chinweke said  The 6 months extension of the tenure of Mr Abdullah Gana as the Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) by the President expires this week,

 

According to Chinese the CSO group, the African Law Foundation (AFRILAW) working on Security Sector Governance and particularly in strengthening and improving effective private security governance in Nigeria is pleading with the Nigeria President to re-appoint Mr Abdullah Gana as the Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a second tenure.

Chinweke said Mr Abdullah Gana is a quintessential, detribalised and patriotic leader, a diligent and dedicated security professional and exceptional Commandant General (CG) who within his first tenure as the Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has transformed and repositioned the Agency as one of the most outstanding, resourceful and respectable federal government security institutions in Nigeria.

He said In his first tenure as the Commandant General (CG), Mr Abdullah Gana made many great and wonderful accomplishments in the areas of improved the safety and security of critical national assets across the country; introduction of Agro-Rangers for improved security within the agricultural sector; increased reduction in farmers and herders’ clashes across the country,  redeeming the image of Nigeria educationally by partnering with Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB); robust relationship and cooperation with other federal security agencies; stoppage of circulation of pre-registered SIM cards; sustained tackling of illegal mining; and strategic collaboration with traditional rulers to nip in the bud the incessant banditry menace in the country.

The AFRILAW said The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) under Mr Abdullah Gana witnessed improved and effective management and administration of both human and financial resources.

‘’There is increased staff welfare resulting in dedication to duty and high esprit-de-corps of personnel including enhanced manpower development and capacity building and regular promotion galore of men and officers of NSCDC.

As the regulator of the Private Security Companies in Nigeria, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) under Mr Abdullah Gana administration has experienced tremendous reform and transformational initiatives toward an improved and effective regulation and supervision, and creation of enabling environment for sustainable growth and development of the private security industry in Nigeria. Under his administration, multi-stakeholder approach for improvement and development of the industry was highly encouraged and promoted, and in this regard, NSCDC established a partnership with AFRILAW toward  strengthening and improvement of private security regulation and oversight for effective private security governance and responsible services in Nigeria through multi-stakeholder engagement’’

 

Nigeria To Partner US In Combating Insecurity-Magashi

 

AFRILAW in partnership and support from the Geneva Center for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), Switzerland is currently implementing the ‘Strengthening Private Security Regulation and Oversight Project’ in partnership and collaboration with  Nigeria  Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN) in Nigeria.

In view of all above and considering the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria and the need to show effective leadership and commitment in tackling it, AFRILAW strongly believed that re-appointment of Mr Abdullah Gana as the Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is the best decision for Mr President will make toward sustaining the pleasant efforts and results recorded by NSCDC  in this regard. Mr Abdullah Gana is very ready and highly committed to take the NSCDC to its next level and continue his giant strides in the NSCDC if re-appointed by Mr President for a second tenure.’’

Federal Government Not Considering Any Foreign Military Base

The federal Government says its not considering any foreign military base in Nigeria.

Minister of information Muhammad Idris stated this in a press release issued to newsmen.

The statement reads as follows .

 

The Federal Government is aware of false alarms being raised in some quarters alleging discussions between the Federal Government of Nigeria and some foreign countries on the siting of foreign military bases in the country.

 

We urge the general public to totally disregard this falsehood.

The Federal Government is not in any such discussion with any foreign country. We have neither received nor are we considering any proposals from any country on the establishment of any foreign military bases in Nigeria.

The Nigerian government already enjoys foreign cooperation in tackling ongoing security challenges, and the President remains committed to deepening these partnerships, with the goal of achieving the national security objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Mega City: Gov. Yusuf Lays Foundation of 15 Billion Naira Inter Change Bridge in Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has layed a N15 billion three layer Interchange bridge at Kofar Dan’agundi in Kano metropolis as part of vision to enhance traffic flow in the ancient city.

The governor who visited the project site on Sunday in company of some cabinet members, affirmed his administration’s eyesight to transform the city centre to status of a mega city.

Recall that Governor Yusuf in December, 2023, awarded the multi-billion naira project to CCG Nigeria Limited with completion period of eighteen months. The multiple projects was awarded along side another high impact interchange bridge at Talidu roundabout also in the city centre, to ease traffic congess.

“We have created fordable alternative routes and motorists are expected to comply with rules for safety and allow the project operation to run smoothly”

Gov. Abba Kabir also layed the foundation of a similar project at Tal’udu roundabout worth 12 billion naira which was initially awarded same time with three layer overpass, underpass and surface layer roads.

In a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson Sanusi Bature, Infrastructure development is a critical area of the present administration where Gov. Yusuf allocate more resources apart from the education sector.

While responding after the foundation laying ceremony, The Project Manager CGC Nigeria Limited Mr. Gee Wang and the commissioner of works and housing Engr. Marwan Ahmad said in a saparate addresses that the project will be completed within the time frame.

Dangote Cement Hosts NISS Team At Obajana

The Plant Director of the Dangote Cement Plc Obajana, Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, has hosted members and students of the National Institute of Security Studies (NISS), Abuja.

The Executive Intelligence Management Course (EMIC) 17 was on study tour of the Cement Plant as part of overall study tour of Kogi State.

Welcoming the team, the Plant Director expressed appreciation to NISS and the study Anchor for deeming it fit to consider visiting the Plant in the spirit and letters of the theme of the study tour “Artificial Intelligence, Security and Emerging Economies in Africa: Challenges and Prospects.”

The Plant Director congratulated the visiting team on being enlisted for the course and wished them a successful exercise.

The team was led to the Plant by the Hon. Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology for Kogi State, Hon. (Dr.) Adeniyi A. Helen. Also in the team was the Programme Lead, Mr. Hyginus Ngele and the team Anchor, Dr. T. O. Fashola.

Earlier, the Programme Lead explained to the Plant Director and his team that the course is aimed at developing a core of security experts with high level of expertise in intelligence and delop their capacity to formulate and implement security policies and strategies to enhance the economic and social development of Nigeria.

He noted that the course has 92 participants with a group visiting the Plant, while others were simultaneously visiting other locations as part of the course learning process.

The students expressed their satisfaction and appreciation for the reception accorded them by Management of the Plant.

Areas of discussions include: Energy security and sharing, AI utilization in the Plant operations, environment, capacity building and CSR.
