Kano Inaugurates 2024 Ramadan Feeding Committee

In a significant move towards boosting unity and support, the Kano State Government inaugurated a high-powered committee on Wednesday for the upcoming 2024 Ramadan Feeding Programme (RFP).

The Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalan Gwarzo, leading the inauguration at his office, emphasized that the program aims to assist all residents of the state, transcending political affiliations.

This was contained in a press statement issued to newsmen by the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu on Wednesday.

The Deputy Governor urged the committee to strategize the distribution of food across designated areas in the state, highlighting the importance of completing their task within five days.

He emphasized the need to review previous reports, ensuring tangible results to address existing gaps.

The committee’s terms of reference include identifying key distribution spots within the 8 metropolitan local governments and 36 local government areas of the state, recommending breakfast menus for the targeted Muslim ummah during Ramadan, and identifying individuals or groups deserving of government goodwill as a Ramadan gesture.

Expressing gratitude to the people of the state for their ongoing support, the Comr. Gwarzo underlined the commitment of the administration led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Ahmad Tijjani Auwal, speaking on behalf of the committee, thanked the state government for entrusting them with this crucial Ramadan feeding task. He assured that the committee would work diligently to fulfill its mandate.

Auwal also called on philanthropists in the state to support the program, ensuring its success and widespread benefits during the Holy Ramadan month.

Other members of the committee includes Aisha Lawan Saji (Commissioner of Women Affairs), Amina Abdullahi (Commissioner of Special Duties), Umar Haruna Doguwa (Commissioner of Education), Baba Halilu Dantiye (Commissioner of Information), among others.

Kano Governor signs into law, premarital health screening Bill

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, officially assented to the Kano State Premarital Health Screening Law, which mandates premarital health screening for all prospective couples.

As per the new law, no wedding will be permitted in Kano without the presentation of a health screening certificate for genotype, hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, and other related illnesses.

In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the law was deemed necessary to reduce the likelihood of children being born with underlying health issues such as sickle cell anemia, HIV/AIDS, and hepatitis.

This initiative aligns with the Kano state governor’s commitment to enhancing and providing a conducive environment for the healthcare sector, aiming to make Kano free from or significantly reduce health challenges.

The law necessitates mandatory testing for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, genotype, and other relevant examinations before marriage.

It also prohibits any discrimination or stigmatization against individuals living with HIV/AIDS, sickle cell anemia , hepatitis, and related conditions.

During the signing ceremony, Governor Abba
Kabir Yusuf emphasized that the purpose of implementing the law is to uphold the sanctity of marriages in Kano State and ensure the birth of healthy offspring, free from any preventable illnesses.

Upon approval by the state house of assembly and endorsement by the Kano state governor, the law was signed on the 6th of May 2024 and will come into effect on May 13, 2024.

It is mandated by the law that any individual intending to marry must undergo testing for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, genotype, and any other relevant tests before marriage.

Furthermore, the law prohibits the formalization of any marriage contract for individuals planning to marry without presenting a test certificate from a government-approved health facility.

Moreover, the law specifies that any individual found in violation of its provisions commits an offense and, upon conviction, may face a fine of up to five hundred thousand Naira, for a minimum of five years, or both.

Best Choice Hospital Relocates to Tal’udu Round About

The management of Best Choice Hospital has announced the relocation of the facility from Sabuwar Gandu to Tal’udu Round About near Sheikh Bashir El-Rayyah College, Kano city.

The chairman of the Hospital Auwal Muhammad Lawal announced this on Saturday in a statement issued to journalists in Kano.

He however noted that Best Choice does not have any branch and has nothing to do with the previous location.

Kano Eyes Multi Billion Naira Rice Mill Investment, As He Receives Chinese Investors

As part of his efforts for Kano to retain it’s position as center of commerce, the state commissioner of commerce and Industry Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kibiya has received a delegation of Chinese investors in his office on Friday.

The delegation under the leadership of Mr Diao Shengyun comprised investors in the areas of Rice Mill, Fertilizer and Machineries who indicated interest to invest in Kano due to perceived favourable business environment under the current administration.

Speaking during the visit, Mr Shengyun told the commissioner that, the team comprised head of companies and businesses who indicated interest and desire to invest in the three critical areas for the benefit of both side.

He also told the commissioner that, the multi-billion naira investment include establishing the largest rice mill in Kano to complement government effort in providing food security and job opportunities.

Responding, the commissioner of commerce and Industry Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kibiya assured the delegation of government readiness to provide business friendly environment for local and international investors.
