2021: Dangote increases sugar production by 9.2% to 811,962 tonnes

For the full year ended December 31, 2021, the Management of Dangote Sugar has revealed that the group’s production volume increased by 9.2 percent to 811,962 tonnes in contrast to 743,858 tonnes, in the corresponding period of 2020.

 

This volume was said to be achieved on the strength of improved operational efficiency despite the adverse impact of the perennial Apapa traffic gridlock situation.

The company however recorded a gross profit of N50.21 billion and profit after taxation of N22.05 billion.

 

The reported group’s revenue of N276.50 billion for the full year, represents an increase of 28.8 percent over N214.30 billion recorded in the year 2020. The company also recorded increase in Group sales volume, which rose by 5.7 percent to 773,341 tonnes compared to 731,701 tonnes in 2020.

Dangote Sugar Refinery in its 2021 audited results stated that growth in 2021 was supported by the positive market responses to key trade interventions introduced during the year. Group production volume increased by 9.2 percent to 811,962 tonnes in contrast to 743,858 tonnes and was achieved on the strength of improved operational efficiency despite the adverse impact of the perennial Apapa traffic gridlock situation. Group managing director, Dangote Sugar Refinery, Ravindra Singhvi in his remarks said Our impressive performance in the year demonstrates our resilience in the face of prevalent challenges, which rightly reflected in strong topline growth shown in the financial results. During the year under review, we concluded integration of our new 50kg packaging for the fortified and non-fortified sugar bags in the market. This refreshed our brand personality and led to a deeper connection to the Dangote Sugar brand among our valued customers and consumers, whilst sustaining our market presence and leadership with the product quality.”

 

“We also continued our Sustainability journey with the inclusion of United Nations Goal 13 to the Dangote Sugar Strategic Priority SGDs 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 to ensure we contribute and make meaningful impact to the society. Our Supply Chain Management process is being certified to ISO 40200 (Sustainable Procurement), and Bonsucro Certification is in view”, he added.

 

Dangote Sugar Refinery has continued to enhance   Outgrowers Management at the Sugar Backward Integration sites. The aim is to support the economic growth of the immediate communities where the refinery operates with about 5,000 outgrowers when the projects have fully taken off. The key focus is achievement of the Dangote Sugar Backward Integration Projects targets and put Nigeria on the path of sugar self-sufficiency and on the world sugar map.

 

The sugar refinery places top priority on the Health and Safety of staff and partners remains a top priority with Apapa Refinery and Backward Integration Operations in Numan, Adamawa State and Tunga, Nasarawa State operating in compliance with stipulated health and safety protocols.

 

Dangote Sugar Refinery is Nigeria’s largest producer of household and commercial sugar with 1.44M MT refining capacity at the same location, refines raw sugar imported from Brazil to white, Vitamin A fortified refined granulated white sugar suitable for household and industrial uses.

Its Backward Integration goal is to become a global force in sugar production, by

producing 1.5M MT/PA of refined sugar from locally grown sugar cane for the domestic and export markets.

To achieve this, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc acquired DSR Numan Operations (Savannah Sugar Company Limited), located in Numan, Adamawa State in December 2012, and embarked on the ongoing rehabilitation of its facilities and expansion of its 32,000 hectares’ sugarcane estate.

 

In September 2020, the scheme of merger between DSR and Savannah Sugar Company Limited was completed which gave birth to a bigger and stronger business with considerable opportunity for growth and delivery of superior benefits to all stakeholders. The expansion of the Numan sugar estate is still ongoing as well as the development of the greenfield site acquired at Tunga, Nasarawa State for the achievement of DSR’s sugar for Nigeria development master plan.

Breaking : Kano postpones Schools Resumption Date

Kano State Government has postponed resumption date of both Primary and Post Primary Schools for the commencement of 2024/2025 academic session.

A statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru quoted the Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa explaining that the decision to postpone the resumption date is compelled by some urgent reasons.

Umar Doguwa disclosed that another day for the schools resumption would soon be announced by the ministry.

” I wish to inform pupils, students and parents that the announcement earlier made for schools resumption on 8th and 9th Sept, 2024 is now being postponed due to some urgent reasons that would help in improving conducive learning atmosphere for our children. Another day for the resumption will be announced in due course ” the commissioner stated.

The statement however appealed to the people concern especially Students and Parents/Guardians to bear with any inconvenience that may be caused due to the postponement.

Army Chief Inaugurates Students Hostel In Kano

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on Friday, inaugurated Community Students Hostel built for Sumaila Local Government students studying in Kano.

Inaugurating the project in Wailari quarters, Lagbaja said the project was part of the efforts by the Nigerian Army to encourage learning in the state.

He said that the Special Intervention Project was initiated by his office to support communities of serving senior officers of the Nigerian army, who rose to the enviable rank of Major Generals through dedication to duty and service to the nation.

Lagbaja, represented by the GOC One Division, Kaduna, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, said that the project would complement the existing infrastructure in the state, promote and strengthen civil-military cooperation in the benefitting communities.

According to him, the initiative will further serve as an avenue for the military to associate with the communities.

He congratulated the Project Executor, Maj.- Gen. Sani Ibrahim, who is the Commandant, Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology, on the timely completion of the project and the quality of work done.

Lagbaja also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his continuous strategic ideas and support to the Nigerian Army.

In a remark, the Army Chief of Civil Military Relations, Maj.-Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, commended COAS for funding the project and giving back to Nigerians as well as putting smiles on the faces of the benefitting communities.

He described the projects as products of healthy symbiotic relationship between the military and civilian population.

Ugbo called on Kano residents to support and provide credible and timely intelligence to security agencies to enhance their operations.

He further urged the natives of the benefitting community to make best use of the facility.

Earlier in an address, the project executor said that the projects would further enhance the image of the Nigerian Army and commended the Army Chief for instituting the programme.

Ibrahim said that the hostel, which had three dometries with 30 bunks and a water borehole, would cater for many students of the community.

The lawmaker representing Kano South Senatorial District, Sen. Kawu Sumaila, lauded the Nigerian Army for establishing the project, stating that it would go a long way in helping the students of higher education in the area.

Some of the students, who spoke to our correspondent thanked COAS for the gesture.

They said that the hostel would help to ease their accommodation problem and improve their learning.

The Kano chapter of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has inaugurated its new executive members in a ceremony held in Kano.

The oath of office was administered by Barrister Adama from the Kano State Ministry of Justice, marking the formal handover of responsibilities to the newly elected leaders.

Bahijja Malam Kabara, a seasoned journalist from the Kano State Ministry of Information, was sworn in as the new Chairperson of the association.

In her inaugural address, Kabara emphasized her commitment to upholding professionalism within the media, particularly among women journalists.

She outlined her key priorities, which include training and retraining female journalists, promoting gender equity in media representation, and forging partnerships with the government to improve the welfare of women and children.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several high-ranking NAWOJ and NUJ officials. Among them were Aisha K. Burra, the National President of NAWOJ, Wasila Ladan, the National Secretary, and Abdulrazaq Bello Kaura, the Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). They all lauded the newly sworn-in executives and expressed confidence in their ability to steer the association forward.
