Edo Government Will Soon Pay Compensation to Kano Hunters Killed by Edo Militia-Governor Yusuf
The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has assured the people of Bunkure Local Government that compensation will be paid to the families of indigenous hunters who were killed by Edo State ethnic militias.
The Governor made this statement when he visited the families of the victims at the palace of the Bunkure District Head.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, told the families that Governor Yusuf has not forgotten them and that they will soon receive compensation from Edo State.
The Commissioner explained that bank accounts have already been opened for the families, and once the process is completed, payments will be made.
When Governor Yusuf came to sympathize with them, he had promised food items and cash support, but this was not executed at the time. He emphasized that the purpose of their visit, as directed by Governor Yusuf, was to look into the well-being of the families.
Governor Yusuf has approved ₦300,000 for each of the families of the 16 hunters who lost their lives. Survivors among the 13 hunters will receive ₦200,000 each. In addition, each family will receive a bag of rice.
The Governor is committed to ensuring that the compensation promised by Governor Martins Ekpehbelo of Edo State is paid.
“We are here to protect the interest of the government and to fulfill the promise. We hope the Governor will be forgiven because the delay in supporting the families was not from him,” the Commissioner said.
He added that Governor Yusuf will also look into supporting the families with issues related to their children’s education.
On his part, the District Head of Bunkure, Aminu Isah Umaru, said they were not surprised by Governor Yusuf’s gesture, describing him as compassionate. He prayed to Almighty Allah to continue guiding the Governor and wished him success in his leadership.
