The President also re-assigned 10 ministers to new ministerial portfolios and appointed seven new ministers for Senate confirmation.

Tinubu nominated Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu as the Minister of State Foreign Affairs, while Nentawe Yilwatda as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, officially bringing an end to the tenure of suspended Betta Edu.

The President also nominated Maigari Dingyadi as the Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole as the Minister of Industry, Idi Maiha as Minister for the newly created Livestock Development Ministry, Yusuf Ata as the Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, with Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State Education.

The President sacked Uju-Ken Ohanenye as Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John as Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman as Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo as Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim as Minister of Youth Development.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the dissolution of the Ministry of Niger Delta and the establishment of a new Ministry of Regional Development.

The decision, made during a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, aims to streamline oversight of various regional development commissions across the country.

The newly created Ministry of Regional Development will be responsible for managing key commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the North West Development Commission, the South West Development Commission, and the North East Development Commission. This move is seen as a strategic initiative to enhance coordination and implementation of development projects in different regions.

In another notable change, the National Sports Commission will now assume the responsibilities previously held by the Ministry of Sports. This transition is expected to centralize the management of sports nationwide under a more unified authority.

Additionally, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy. This consolidation is aimed at fostering synergies between tourism and cultural initiatives, enhancing the promotion of Nigeria’s rich heritage and creative sectors.

These decisions mark a new chapter in President Tinubu’s administration, as he seeks to optimize government functions while addressing regional disparities. The President emphasized the importance of creating a government structure that reflects the diverse needs of Nigeria’s various regions.

The Nigerian Democracy Working Group (NDWG) has condemned a recent court ruling that sacked the Chairman and five other members of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KNSIEC) just days before the scheduled local government elections.

In a statement released today, Dr. Vincent Okpara Innocent, Convener of the NDWG, and Dr. Idris A. Mohammed, Co-Convener,  described the decision by Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano as “insensitive, anti-people, anti-democracy, anti-social justice, emotionally loaded, and irrational.”

The NDWG argued that the court’s actions had compromised the interests of over 20 million people in Kano State and undermined the democratic process.

The group accused the Federal High Court in Kano of destabilizing the peace and security of the state through its conflicting court orders.

It is clear that the Federal High Courts in Kano are on a special mission to destabilize the peace and security of the State,” the statement said. “Every responsible person would wonder how could a competent court of law compromise the interest and feelings of over 20 million people of Kano State by truncating a long-time plan to conduct the Local Government Councils elections.”

The NDWG called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun, to take disciplinary action against Justice Simon Amobeda for issuing such an “irresponsible” court order. The group also urged the CJN to implement reforms in the Nigerian Judiciary to address the issue of reckless judges who issue indiscriminate court orders.
