Book Launch of “Tarihin Hajiya Malama ‘Yar Kyakke” Set for February 15, 2025

The much-anticipated book launch of “Tarihin Hajiya Malama ‘Yar Kyakke,” written by Saidu Mustapha Buhari, is scheduled to take place on February 15, 2025. The biography chronicles the life of Hajiya Malama Aminatu ‘Yar Kyakke, a revered Islamic scholar from Dambatta, Northern Nigeria.
In an interview, Buhari expressed his deep sense of honor and privilege in authoring the biography of such a rare and honorable personality. “It is a great honor to write a book, and the honor multiplies when you have the great privilege and honor of authoring a biography of a rare, great, and honorable personality. Alhamdulillah,” he stated.
The idea for the book came in 2019, when Dr. Bala Umar Dambatta advised Buhari to document the life of Hajiya Malama Yar Kyakke. Embracing the suggestion with inquisitiveness, Buhari embarked on a journey filled with interviews and consultations, resulting in the birth of the biography.
Hajiya Malama Aminatu ‘Yar Kyakke, born in the early 1920s, was a remarkable Islamic scholar who thrived in Dambatta. Despite being born in an era when girls were often married off at a young age, Malama dedicated herself to acquiring and imparting knowledge. She was a gifted figure who absorbed any piece of knowledge that came her way from a very tender age.
Buhari’s biography takes readers on a fascinating journey through Malama’s life of virtuousness, discipline, and erudition. Hajiya Malama taught in the traditional Makarantun Allo way, overseeing and graduating many students who have gone on to excel in various fields. Her story is unique and worth telling, especially considering the rarity of such learned women in the patriarchal societies of Northern Nigeria.
“Imagine a learned woman surrounded by almajirais, teaching and correcting their recitations. Imagine a woman, despite being tied to her domestic chores, writing diverse chapters of the Holy Qur’an for numerous students! We will have a vivid picture of a rare gem glaring at us,” Buhari explained. He emphasized that Malama was a disciplinarian who stood for integrity, trust, and diligence.
Many pupils who attended Makarantar Hajiya Malama have become successful personalities, including high-placed academics, businessmen, and malamas. The launch event promises to be a tribute to her enduring legacy.
The book launch is scheduled as follows:
Date:February 15, 2025
Time:10:30 a.m.
Venue:School of Basic Midwifery Dambatta Premises.
The public is invited to attend and celebrate the life and contributions of Hajiya Malama ‘Yar Kyakke.

Falgore Game Reserve Faces State of Emergency as Dilapidation and Encroachment Threaten Wildlife Conservation Efforts-Sawaba

The Falgore Game Reserve is facing a state of emergency due to the deteriorating conditions of its infrastructure and rampant encroachment.
This was revealed by Halliru Ahmad Sawaba, Special Adviser to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Wildlife Conservation, during an assessment visit to the reserve.
During the visit, Sawaba highlighted the dire state of the staff quarters in both the southern and northern sectors of the reserve. “The staff quarters of the southern sector are dilapidated, and the houses in the northern sector at Nataala are not habitable,” he stated. He added that accommodations in various sectors, including the Gomo sector, would be repaired.
Sawaba also pointed out a significant encroachment issue in a disputed area of the reserve, allegedly involving a member of the Bauchi assembly.
He emphasized the urgent need for additional manpower, surveillance gadgets, computers, cameras, and trackers to ensure the effective management of the reserve. “We have reiterated the state of emergency. People should stop the indiscriminate felling of trees and encroachment of restricted areas,” he warned.
Isham Sani Aliyu, Deputy Director of Wildlife Management at Falgore Game Reserve, expressed optimism about the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises. “We have been here for the past five days, and it is a great visit. It shows there is commitment in fulfilling promises made by the government,” he said. Aliyu stressed the importance of the forest for the survival of major dams in Kano and called for the implementation of conservation policies.
“The forest is 1,000 square kilometers, and we are understaffed. We need more staff, adequate motorcycles for patrol, and general rehabilitation of the camp. The Kano State Government should boost the forest, provide more training, and ensure synergy among stakeholders,” Aliyu added.
The visit to the Falgore Game Reserve underscores the urgent need for action to address the challenges facing the reserve and ensure the preservation of its wildlife and natural resources. The government has been urged to take immediate measures to stop illegal activities and provide the necessary support to enhance the conservation efforts in the reserve.

Rimin Zakara Land Dispute: Danagundi calls for calm, urges State Assembly to constitute fact-finding panel

The Director General of the National Productivity Centre Dr Baffa Babba Danagundi has called on the Kano State House of Assembly to constitute a fact-finding panel over the land dispute between Bayero University Kano and the Rimin Zakara community of Ungogo local government.
Danagundi made the call through his Director of Media and Public Relations Victor Ainoku.
The Director General who sympathised with the community over the unfortunate incident said he is aware of the land dispute between Bayero University and the Rimin Zakara Community where some fraudulent land agent took advantage of that by conniving with some community members to sell the plots illegally.
“Instead of the State Assembly to side with one party, they should constitute a fact-finding committee to know the truth of the matter. That’s how things work, did these people have their land documents and does the land belong to Bayero University?
The Vice Chancellor of the University is a hardworking person, I believe he is doing all these to protect the institution from the fraudulent land grabbers.
I’m calling on both the state Assembly and the Kano government to launch an investigation that will bring the truth of the matter to justice.
This is not the time to be exchanging words”. He said
