EndBadGovernance: Governor Yusuf Constitutes Panel of Inquiry to Unravel Perpetrators, Sponsors of Violent Protest

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has challenged the newly constituted Judicial Commission of Inquiry (JCI) to unravel sponsors of destruction that greeted the #EndBadGovernance protest in Kano.

Inaugurating the 14-men panel lead by retired Justice Lawan Wada Mahmoud on Monday at the Government House, the Governor challenged the panel to investigate killings, looting and destructions of public and private properties with a view to bring perpetrators to justice.

A statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa shortly after the inauguration, Yusuf regretted the economic sabotage incurred during the protest hijacked by hoodlums, but urged the panel to discharge the trust without fear or favour.

The Governor specifically urged the panel to investigate the missing documents at the high court complex especially some criminal files and looting exhibits by the criminal elements.

He directed the commission not to hesitate in their invitation to any individual found wanting to answer questions whether in Kano or anywhere in the country, regardless of status or position in Nigeria.

According to the Governor, ” the setting up of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry was in fulfillment of pledge made during the inspection of the destroyed facilities. We want the panel to dig deeper into the remote and immediate causes of the senseless destructions as well as identifying the masterminds for the law of the land to take its full course”.

Other terms of reference set for the Commission include “Establish remote and immediate causes of the first week of August, 2024 breach of the peace, wanton destruction of public and private properties, looting, arson and killings in Kano State; identify individuals, group of persons and/or institutions directly or indirectly responsible for the unrest and their roles in precipitating the unrest and make appropriate recommendations.

The Commission is also required “to ascertain the extent of damage of properties, loss of lives and valuables, and recommend ways of avoiding a recurrence of such happenings in the future and make any other recommendations incidental to the commission’s assignment and its terms of references.

“It is gratifying to know that in carrying out its functions, the commission is to be guided by the provisions of of section 8 of the Kano State Commission of Inquiry Law, Cap 36, Laws of Kano State of Nigeria, 2018”.

Other members of the panel are Barrister Tajuddeen Funsho, Alhaji Sani Isa Asia, Prof. Musa Muhammad Borodo, Barrister Sagir Suleiman Gezawa, ACP Munir Madugu, Shehu Abdullahi and Hajiya Gambo Abdullahi.

Others include Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dukawa, Rev. Murtala Mati Dangora, Barrister MB. Danazumi, Barrister Haruna Musa Muhammad, Barrister Salisu Marmara who would serve as a Secretary of the Commission.

Chairman, Justice Lawan Wada Mahmud retired, appreciated Kano State government for founding them worthy to handle such assignment despite having many capable personalities at hand.

On behalf of the members of the Commission, Justice Lawan Wada retired, promised to do assignment to the best of their ability without fear or favour and they will justify the confidence in them by the State government.

NUJ Visits Ammasco Radio, Advocates for Chapel Establishment

The Chairman of the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, has pledged to strengthen the relationship between the Union and media outlets in the state.

Dederi made the statement during a familiarization visit to Ammasco Radio, where he advocated for the establishment of a chapel to boost productivity. He also assured that all unregistered media houses would be incorporated into the Union, emphasizing the NUJ leadership’s commitment to fostering collaboration and synergy across Kano’s media landscape.

He explained that this move aims to unify the media industry and enable a more organized and coordinated effort in showcasing the Union’s activities through awareness programs. According to Dederi, such collaboration between the Union and media houses will create a strong platform to address important issues and positively impact society.

In response, the Managing Director of Ammasco Radio, Alhaji Ibrahim Mistapha, highlighted the station’s efforts to launch programs that encourage youth and women to participate in skills acquisition initiatives, essential for community development. He stressed that by promoting skill-building and productivity, the station contributes to reducing societal idleness and empowering individuals toward self-sufficiency.

Mistapha also commended the station’s focus on reviving industries in Kano, noting that Ammasco Radio plays a crucial role in advocating for economic growth and development. He added that the station’s proactive approach not only raises awareness but also mobilizes authorities and stakeholders to take action toward industrial resurgence.

The collaboration between the Kano NUJ and media organizations like Ammasco Radio underscores a shared commitment to enhancing community engagement, promoting skill development, and driving industrial progress. These combined efforts are vital in advancing a more prosperous and empowered society.

Maulud: Emulate Good Deeds Of Prophet Muhammad, Rep. Abubakar Bichi To Muslims

The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Alhaji Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, has while commemorating with the Muslims on the days of Maulud, asked them to emulate the good deeds of the Prophet of Islam.

Abubakar in a released he Personally signed and issued to Newsmen, in Kano, Monday, said that periods like the days of the birth of the Prophet of Islam are special days that Muslims should persistently prayed and help one another.

He said, the Maulud period is a special days that calls for caregiving, sympathy, support to one another and above all love to your neighbor’s, relatives and the general public.

The Chairman, congratulate the People of Bichi Federal Constituency and the general Kano citizens on the period of Maulud and asked them to persistently pray for a better society they live in.

Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, said that the prayers of the Bichi and entire Kano People is needed at this period of the Maulud and assured them of Allah’s guidance.

“I congratulate my people of Bichi Federal Constituency and the entire Kano People on the period of Maulud and pray that their lives would greatly improve for the better”.

Murtala Sule Garo Joins Eid-el-Maulud Celebrations, Calls for Urgent Economic Reforms to Ease Nigeria’s Suffering

Former deputy governorship candidate in Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo has joined Muslim faithful in Nigeria to mark the Eid-el-Maulud.

12 Rabi Ul Awwal is the date on which Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was born and it’s celebrated by Muslims across the globe, as Islamic school children read and sing to celebrate his virtues.

Murtala Sule Garo urged all Muslims to use the occasion to reflect on the virtues of Islam as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), including showing love for one’s neighbour, patience, honesty, empathy, kindness and generosity, etc.

Garo sympathized with Nigeria over the high cost of living in the country.

He said the primary responsibility of every government is the protection of life and property, urging leaders at all levels to come up with urgent interventions to ease the suffering in their states and the country at large.

Garo said, “Economic policies that will ensure material well-being of the poor, vulnerable as well as working people should be the priority of every government.

“Governments must create a favorable economic atmosphere for businesses to thrive. Job creation and employment opportunities for our teeming youth is necessary.

“The issue of almajiri is critical. Intervention that will better their lives and lift them off the street is vital at this moment.

“I urge Muslims to use Maulud gatherings to intensify prayers for stability and economic well-being.”
