ACF Appoints Bashir Hayatu Gentile as Special Adviser on Public Affairs

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has officially appointed Bashir Hayatu Abubakar, popularly known as Gentile, as its Special Adviser on Public Affairs. The appointment was formally presented by the Secretary General of the ACF, Malam Murtala Aliyu (Matawallen Gombe), during a brief ceremony held today in Kaduna.

In a statement issued to the press, Gentile expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to bring his wealth of experience to bear in advancing the Forum’s public engagement and strategic communication efforts.

 

Gentile, 60, hails from Kano and boasts an impressive career spanning over three decades in public communication, political strategy, and international relations. His credentials include:

– Participation in over 40 international conferences and seminars on media, politics, and public relations
– Membership in prestigious bodies such as:
– International Public Relations Association (IPRA)
– Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR)

– Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON)

 

Gentile’s career has been marked by significant national assignments and political roles, including:

– Member of the Federal Government delegation to Sierra Leone in 1998 for the restoration of President Tejan Kabbah
– Delegate to the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris
– Former Director of Publicity for the defunct ANPP in Kano State (2007–2010)
– Director of Communication for the ACN gubernatorial campaign in Kano (2011)
– Senior Legislative Aide (Public Affairs) to former Senate President Ahmed Lawan (2020–2023)
– Deputy Director of Public Affairs (North) for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council (2023)

Currently, Gentile serves as a public relations consultant to various national and international organizations, leveraging his deep expertise in political communication and strategic media engagement.

Veteran Broadcaster And Ex-MD ARTV, Radio Kano Adamu Getso Dies At 75

Former Managing Director of Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) and the Kano State Radio Corporation, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Getso, is dead.

The veteran broadcaster reportedly passed away on Saturday at the age of 75 after a prolonged illness.

A native of Getso town in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, the late media administrator was widely respected for his significant contributions to broadcasting, public communication, and information dissemination in Kano State.

During his distinguished career, Getso served as Managing Director of Abubakar Rimi Television during the first tenure of former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso between 1999 and 2003. He later headed the Kano State Radio Corporation during Kwankwaso’s second tenure as governor.

The late broadcaster earned widespread recognition through his role in anchoring popular Hausa-language programmes, including Hukuma da Jama’a (Government and the People) and Aiki Sai Mai Shi, which focused on government policies, public affairs, and development programmes.

Colleagues and admirers described him as a dedicated professional who used the media as a platform for public enlightenment and civic engagement.

His contributions to the growth of public broadcasting in Kano and his commitment to promoting government-citizen communication earned him respect across the media industry and beyond.

Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Getso is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and other relatives.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.

Kidnappers of Ex-army General Release Video, Demand Livestock, Members’ Release

The abductors of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, and his wife released a video on Saturday showing the couple in captivity.

The couple were abducted along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, near Zakin Baure village.

In the four-minute video circulated on social media, the wife of the retired general was seen conveying the abductors’ demands, Daily Trust reports.

The demands included the release of three of their members identified as Sani, Aminu and Nasiru, as well as the return of livestock allegedly seized from them.

According to her account, two of the detained individuals were arrested in Jikamshi while the third was arrested in Kano.

She also appealed to the Katsina State Government and leaders of five local government areas to facilitate compliance with the demands to secure their release.

The retired general, who spoke briefly in the video, called for efforts to ensure peace, adding that the abductors had expressed interest in dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

Daily Trust also reports that notorious bandit leader Kachallah Muhammad, who operates in parts of Katsina State, had reportedly established communication with the family of the retired general.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the video.

RATTAWU Kano Chapter Hails DG Sunusi Bature For Repairs of Association Bus

The Kano State chapter of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) has commended the Director-General, Media and Publicity to State Governor, Alhaji Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, for facilitating the repair of the association’s bus.

The commendation was made by the Chairman of RATTAWU Kano State Council, Comrade Babangida Mamuda Biyamusu, in a statement issued to pressmen in Kano.

According to the chairman, the union’s bus had been grounded for some time due to mechanical faults, creating challenges for members in carrying out official assignments and union activities.
He described the intervention by Alhaji Sunusi Bature as timely and highly commendable, noting that it has restored the vehicle to operational condition and eased transportation challenges faced by the association.

“On behalf of the entire RATTAWU family in Kano State, we sincerely appreciate this magnanimous gesture. The repair of the bus will go a long way in enhancing our operational efficiency and supporting our activities,” Comrade Biyamusu stated.

The chairman assured that members of the union would continue to play their professional role in sensitising and informing the public about government policies, programmes, and developmental initiatives across the state.

Comrade Biyamusu also expressed gratitude to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for what he described as the administration’s commitment to the development of the state through its Kano First agenda.
He further described Governor Yusuf as a people-oriented and media-friendly leader whose administration has continued to implement policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people and accelerating the state’s development.

The RATTAWU chairman reaffirmed the union’s commitment to promoting professionalism in the media industry and supporting initiatives that contribute to the progress and development of Kano State.
