JUST IN: Appeal Court Upholds Senate’s Suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan
By Yusuf Danjuma Yunusa
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Monday affirmed the power of the Senate to suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, ruling that the action was constitutionally valid.
In a unanimous judgment, a three-member panel dismissed the Senator’s challenge to her suspension, concluding that the Senate acted within its authority and that the suspension did not infringe upon her parliamentary privileges or constitutional rights.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate in March 2025 following an investigation into alleged misconduct. The disciplinary action stemmed from an altercation on the Senate floor involving the Senator and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The court’s ruling solidifies the Senate’s disciplinary powers over its members regarding internal parliamentary conduct.
