Gov. Yusuf Inaugurates Settlement of Death Benefits and Gratuity for Kano Pensioners

In fullfilment of one of the campaign promises as contained in his blueprint, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has on Saturday flagged-off the first tranche of settlement of death benefits to deceased civil servants and gratuity of pensioners to about six thousand (6,000) beneficiaries who exited from the civil service and deceased workers between 2016 and 2019 totalling billion naira at an elaborate occasion that was held at Coronation Hall Government House.

Delivering his address at the event, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said the payment was possible despite meagre resources, inherited empty treasury and competing developmental projects as the government had blocked leakages of public funds siphoning and more viable projects for people of the state.

Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf said his administration was highly concerned with the plight of pensioners especially those at the lower level as they are the end receipients of the economic hardship occasion by the removal of fuel Subsidy in the country.

The Governor added that to ensure the continuation of the settlement of the backlog, 10 billion naira was propose in the state next year’s budget for more inclusion of gratuity and death benefits of bereaved families of deceaseds civil servants to enjoy their legitimate entitlements.

He made a clarion call to the receivers of the funds, to make judicious use of what they collected and invest wisely in lawful businesses for more incomes to cater for their day to day needs and other necessities of life.

In his submission, the deputy governor and Commissioner for local governments and Chieftaincy affairs, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo appreciated the selection of beneficiaries with not more than 3 million at the state level, 1.5 million at local governments levels all within grade level 1-6.

The Executive Chairman of Kano State Pension Trustees Fund, Alhaji Habu Muhammad Fagge, said the commencement of liquidating the backlog and ensure prompt payment of gratuity and death benefits was a clear indication of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s zeal to better the lives of pensioners and provide succur to the families of deceased civil servants.

YPP Chairman Commends Kano Governor for Intervening in Two Remote Villages

The Chairman of the Young Progressives Party in Kano, Barrister SS Umar, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for intervening in two remote villages, Danshayi in Rimin Gado Local Government and Gishiri Wuya in Warawa Local Government Area, due to the lack of schools and roads in the area.

The YPP Chairman made the commendation while addressing newsmen in Kano.

He said, “I learned that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf heard the plight of the two communities over Arewa Radio regarding the lack of schools and good roads. The governor’s prompt intervention was timely.”

When the governor heard the information, he immediately dispatched the state commissioner of education to assess the place, which is a commendable initiative.

Barrister SS Umar added that the allocation of 31 percent to education for the 2025 fiscal year is a welcome development.

Sarkin Shanono Confers Traditional Title of Giwar Shanono to Dr. Amina A. Sadiq

The Sarkin Shanono in Kano North, Northwestern Nigeria, has conferred the title of Giwar Shanono to Dr. Amina Al Sadiq, a philanthropist and founder of the non-governmental organization Captain Guidance and Counseling Foundation (CGC’p).

The ceremony, which took place at Shanono town in the palace of Sarkin Shanono on Friday, was attended by dignitaries from many parts of Kano State, including Dr. Amina’s friends, on Friday, November 9, 2024.

Apart from heading the foundation, Dr. Amina is a veteran journalist and a university lecturer, which enables her to offer philanthropic gestures.

Sarkin Shanono said Dr. Amina was chosen due to her diligence and steadfastness in doing what she stood for, especially doing good for society.

In her remarks, Dr. Amina thanked Sarkin Shanono for the gesture and vowed to continue doing her best in serving humanity.

Part of her engagement is public enlightenment for people across the world related to their lives. This includes marriage counseling, lifestyle advice, community projects, public enlightenment programs, catering services programs, personal hygiene counseling, and interior decoration ideas.**

Gov. Yusuf, Falana SAN, Secure the Release of 71 Kano Minors Arrested During August Protest

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been unwavering in his commitment to securing the release of the teenagers, vowing to pursue all legal avenues to ensure their freedom.

In a statement, issued by governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for the collective efforts of human rights advocates, including renowned lawyer Femi Falana SAN, and others who fought tirelessly to secure the minors’ release.

“The Federal Government has today withdrawn the treason charges against the minors, who were primarily from Kano State.

“This is a victory for justice and human dignity,” said Barr. Suleiman Dantsoho, one of the human rights lawyers representing the teenagers.

He went on to praise Governor Yusuf for his dedication to the cause, noting that the Governor’s leadership and advocacy had been instrumental in ensuring the teenagers’ freedom.

“We commend Governor Abba Yusuf for his unwavering support and commitment to human rights and the dignity of his people,” Dantsoho added.

The teenagers are set to be formally handed over to Governor Yusuf by Vice President Kashim Shettima later today, before being flown back to Kano via Max Air.

This landmark decision underscores the importance of safeguarding the rights of individuals, especially minors, and demonstrates the power of legal advocacy in the face of injustice.
