Plateau State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Hon. Ibrahim Musa Ashoms, has expressed the State Government’s commitment to partnering with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and all journalists in the state as critical stakeholders to promote government policies and programs.

Hon. Ashoms made this statement during a courtesy visit by the newly elected officials of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, to his office in Jos.

“The Ministry of Information and Communication under my watch will continue to partner with the NUJ and all journalists in the state to promote the policies and programs of our amiable Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang’s administration.

You are our ambassadors. You are the ones who will inform the people about our achievements. We’ve accomplished a lot so far, and we’re hoping to do more.

“Your tenure will witness many successes for the NUJ, and I seek your support and solidarity for positive reporting.”

In response, the NUJ Chairman, Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, on behalf of the newly elected officials of the NUJ Plateau State Council, stated that the visit aimed to formally introduce themselves to the Commissioner of Information, as the ministry oversees the activities of all journalists in the state.

“The primary role of the media is to provide information to the public. Our members, who work in various media organizations, are dedicated to fulfilling that role.

“Our leadership is committed to professionalism and will continue to strive to promote government policies and programs.”

Pwaspo urged the commissioner to reinstate the monthly briefing sessions involving all ministries and government agencies, providing a platform to address journalists and, by extension, the people of Plateau State regarding their activities.

“We urge you to consider reintroducing the monthly briefings, with you as the Commissioner of Information chairing them. We appreciate the support that the Plateau State Government has extended to journalists.”

She also pledged that during the new tenure, the NUJ Plateau Council would work diligently to eliminate quackery in the journalism profession.

Other officials of NUJ present during the visit included Pam Musa (Vice Chairman), Mary Domtur (Secretary), Timothy Tyem (Asst. Secretary), Lyop Pam (Treasurer), Celetine Atssar (Auditor), and Peter Amine (Ex-officio).

NNPP Crisis: Assembly Members Deny Factional Differences

Published

By Salisu Baso

As the crisis erupted within Kano’s ruling party NNPP, with some members calling for the governor to stand independently, the Kano State House of Assembly has denied knowledge of any of its members being involved in the rifts.

The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Lawan Hussain, representing Dala Constituency, revealed this to newsmen in an interview with journalists over the publication of an online newspaper, Daily Nigeria, stating that some members of the NNPP in the House have joined the factional crisis.

He described the news as a fabricated and mischievous story from unpatriotic elements planning to destroy the peace reigning within the party. He said that as far as the members of the House are concerned, there are no conflicts between the governor and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The Majority Leader therefore assured the party parliament members of their solid support for the leader of the Kwankwasiyya and state governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, adding that the governor considers Senator Kwankwaso his mentor.

On the issue of some party members calling for the governor to be independent (Tsaya da Kafar Ka), Hon. Dala said the governor is operating independently without interference from any person. He therefore accused some opposition politicians from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, of sponsoring unpatriotic people to ignite a crisis in the state with a view to disrupting the government’s development initiatives.
