Governor Yusuf Set to Present Kano’s First-Ever ₦1 Trillion Budget for 2026
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced that his administration is finalizing arrangements to present the state’s first-ever ₦1 trillion proposed budget for the 2026 financial year.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawkain Tofa on Friday.
The Governor made this known on Friday while declaring open the Second Special Executive Council Meeting convened to deliberate on the 2026 budget proposals ahead of its formal presentation to the Kano State House of Assembly next week.
Governor Yusuf explained that the historic budget size reflects his administration’s determination to consolidate the ongoing massive infrastructure, urban renewal and expand socio-economic development across the state.
He attributed the increase in the proposed budget to the significant improvement in internally generated revenue (IGR) and the blocking of leakages within the system.
“Our administration has strengthened internal revenue mechanisms and sealed leakages, which now allows us to plan boldly for transformative projects in 2026,” the Governor said.
He further stated that the 2026 budget will focus on housing development, agriculture, education, healthcare, and support for small and medium enterprises, aimed at stimulating economic growth and creating sustainable livelihoods for the people of Kano State.
Once concluded, the proposed budget of over one trillion will be transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and approval.
The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and ensuring that every sector receives the necessary support to deliver quality services to the citizens.
If presented, will be the first ever buggest budget from any northern state of Nigeria.

President Tinubu Reappoints Buba Marwa As NDLEA Chairman
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term.
Marwa was first appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021, after serving as the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse from 2018 to December 2020.
The reappointment means the Adamawa-born former military officer will remain at the helm of the NDLEA until 2031.
Marwa, a former military governor of Lagos and Borno States, is a graduate of the Nigerian Military School and the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA.
After his commissioning as a second lieutenant in 1973, Marwa served as brigade major of the 23 Armoured Brigade, Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Theophilus Danjuma, and academic registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy. He also served as Deputy Defence Adviser in the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC, and later as Defence Adviser to the Nigerian Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
He holds two postgraduate degrees: a Master of Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh (1983–85) and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University (1985–86).
His tenure in the NDLEA has been remarkable for many drug busts, including the arrests of 73,000 drug mules and barons and seizures of over 15 million kilogrammes of various hard drugs.
Under his leadership, the agency has also launched nationwide campaigns to address drug abuse.
In a statement issued by special adviser to the President on Information and strategy Bayo Onanuga said “Your reappointment is a vote of confidence in your onerous efforts to rid our country of the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse. I urge you not to relent in tracking the merchants of hard drugs, out to destroy our people, especially the young ones”, President Tinubu

My Pension Is Less Than 100 Thousand Naira – Retired Police Commissioner
By Abbas Yushau Yusuf
Abdulkadir Muhammad Indabawa, a retired commissioner of police, says he is earning less than 100 thousand Naira every month as a retired commissioner of police.
The retired commissioner made the revelation during an interview with Hausa online medium DCL Hausa, which was monitored by Nigerian Tracker.
The retired commissioner said that, as a result, he will not allow his children to be employed in the police force.
According to him, the less than one hundred thousand Naira he earns will not even buy a full bag of rice, let alone sustain him and his family for a month.
“As I am telling you, my pension will only buy half a jerry can of cooking oil,” he said.
Abdulkadir Indabawa added that he is lucky to have good friends who help him steer his life up to this day, but the pension being earned by the police is very discouraging.
Nigerian Tracker reports that recently there have been some protests in Abuja by the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, and a skit maker, Danbello, over the pension of police officers across the country.
