                              Zainab Bakori

How do you start the E Restaurant?
I started this business after I finished my University in the year 2019, and came back home without doing anything, last year around the month of December I visited my aunts in Kaduna, one day I decided to make samosas and spring rolls for the family, we ate and everyone enjoyed it, and my aunts advised that I should start the pastry business since I have the skills  and can make it perfectly, it just started as a joke ,.after I came back to Kano, I decided to try it .I posted on my Whats app status that I sell snacks and drinks, people should start sending their orders. So ,like play ,that’s how my friends and family started patronizing ,then the  business begins,at that time I just posted to see how far it will go without me even having a cup of flour.
I also chose  a day and then went for shopping, came back and made some snacks, to my greatest surprise it finished that same day and people were even asking for more, which I make another one the following day
You mean customers patronize you online?
Not only online customers, my neighbors, family, relatives and all, even people I don’t know ,many call and order for Delicacies without us knowing each other because I sent flyers to people so as to help me post and tell others,
People order and I have delivery men that deliver to their doorsteps
For how many months have you been into the business?

For about 5 months now,I started in Jan 2020.

Since you are generating customers online how fast are people coming?

Masha Allah ,when I started this business my friends, and family were my only customers but now I have many, and people order a little just to taste, but for now I make snacks for birthday  parties, wedding, meeting, reception and lots and it does not stop here, we also deliver to states like Kaduna, Kano,Abuja, Jigawa,Plateau,Kebbi,Yobe and Katsina states etc.

Alhamdulillah I have alot of customers that I have never imagine having and I have been linked to people I have never imagine my delicacies will reach, now I received orders everyday.
Which of the online medium people mostly use to patronize your restaurant?

WhatsApp and Instagram
Zainab, you are a graduate of Library and information science how comes after graduation you venture into E- restaurant at a time most graduates want work in offices and be paid salary?

I wanted studying MBBS, so I wasn’t opportune to get admission into that department, so i decided to  study library science, putting at the back of my mind after that Iam just going into business, I want to be my own boss because I just don’t like people giving me commands and turning me the way they like . So,had it been I was opportune to be a Doctor I would have worked, since  i could not, i decided to venture into business after school, and to be my own boss.

I want to be my own boss and be paying others not me to be paid.
Since you started this business in January are you impressive with the profit ?
Very ,very impressive, I started with not up to 10k and Alhamdulillah for now I save a lot every month..I do and buy a lot of things for myself without bothering to ask my parents  .
Now with this huge profit what is your ambition in the business?
Iam planning big by opening a shop that we will sell all the delicacies and also other things that  we will be adding to our menu. We will be having shop and also continue with the E-business because  both have advantage..I want my stuffs to reach where I did not reach yet.

KEDCO Sees Improvement in Financial Performance Following Power Restoration, Appeals for Prompt Payment

Published

Kano Electricity Distribution Plc. (KEDCO) has reported steady improvements in financial and business performance following the restoration of power supply after a significant blackout during the September-October 2024 billing and collection cycle. This was disclosed in a press statement signed by Sani Bala Sani, Head of Corporate Communication at KEDCO.

According to Sani, the blackout had severely impacted KEDCO and three other distribution companies in the North East and North West regions, with KEDCO being the worst hit. “Recall that KEDCO, alongside three other distribution companies in the North East and North West had significant disruption to power supply in October, with KEDCO being the worst hit,” he stated.

The operations at KEDCO were initially affected on October 13th, 2024, with only 40% of their grid allocation being supplied after the Shiroro-Kaduna 330kV line incident. This situation was exacerbated by a total blackout on October 20th, 2024, during the peak of the revenue collection cycle. “Although the power supply was partially restored to a 40% level on 30th October, we were only availed with up to around 85% supply levels on November 14th and are anxiously awaiting the completion of the Shiroro-Kaduna repairs,” Sani explained.

The blackout resulted in KEDCO’s worst market performance of the year, posing significant financial and economic challenges for both KEDCO and its customers. “Having zero grid supply posed significant financial and economic challenges for KEDCO and its customers, with many customers resorting to costly backup sources or shutting down operations,” Sani noted.

Despite the challenges, KEDCO has seen improvements in power supply, which now stands at around 85%, leading to significant collections from last month’s arrears. Sani urged customers to cooperate by paying their current bills and outstanding arrears promptly to ensure business sustainability. “Thankfully, with the current power supply at around 85%, we have recorded significant collections from last month’s arrears and are appealing to our customers to continue to cooperate with us on prompt settlement of their current bills and arrears, for business sustainability,” he appealed.

Sani also commended the resilience of KEDCO’s customers and vowed to continue improving the performance in supplying safe and reliable electricity. “We commend the resilience of our customers and vow to continue to improve our performance in supplying them with safe and reliable electricity,” he said. He thanked the Honourable Minister of Power for his timely intervention and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for their restoration efforts. “We equally acknowledge TCN’s restoration efforts and appreciate the Federal Government’s commitment to helping improve the redundancy and safety of the National Grid,” he added.

Looking ahead, KEDCO’s core investor and Board remain committed to driving investments and improving performance through embedded generation supply options via the Safe Grid and Utility 2.0 projects. “It remains our core investor and Board’s resolve to continue to drive investments and improved performance through embedded generation supply options in our network via the Safe Grid and Utility 2.0 projects,” Sani stated.
