The former Governor of defunct North-Western State Retired Police commissioner Usman Faruk Dies at 87 ,this Friday morning and his funeral is expected to be held in Gombe at 4:PM this after noon.

Retired Police Commissioner Usman Faruk ruled the defunct North-Western State as its pioneer Governor with capital in Sokoto now splitted into Kebbi,Sokoto,Zamfara and Niger States.

In a tribute to Late Commissioner Usman Faruk by Ibrahim Ahmad Kala, LL.M said the following

The available record mostly culled from ‘Icon & Archivers in Gombe State’ revealed that HE Asst. Commissioner of Police, Alh Usman Faruk, CON, (Rtd) (Jarman Gombe) was born in 1933 in Pindiga, Akko LGA of Gombe State. He started his Elementary School at Pindiga between 1945 to 1949; proceeded to Bauchi Middle School from 1948 to 1949; and later Barewa College, Zaria from 1949 to 1955 where he first curved his niche as winner in essay competition when he first branded artificial fertilizer as “Takin Zamani” with a trademark “Shamuwa”; With that feast, he easily joined School of Agriculture, Zaria 1955; and then College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria from 1956 to 1958. He also attended Southern Police Ikeja, Lagos in 1958. Jarma later went to Wakefield Detective College, Yorkshire, England between 1961 to 1962, and several command and administrative courses both in Nigeria and abroad.

His Excellency served in several capacities as detective and administrator spanning more than a decade since 1959. He started his career as a Cadet Sub Inspector of Police in 1959. He was one time Regional Police Training Officer, Northern Region in 1963, and Provisional Police Officer, Zaria Province between 1963 to 1964 when he was transferred to Kabba Province in the same capacity. His diligence and commitment to duty earned him the rank of Commander X-Squad at Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Lagos between 1964 to 1966. He was redeployed to Kaduna in 1967 as Provisional Police Officer, and thereafter, was appointment as the first Military Governor of the earlwhile North-Western State between 1967 to1975. Thus, by this appointment, he became the first indigene of Gombe State to attain such exalted position in Nigeria. He retired from active service in 1975 meritoriously for 16 years.

Late Jarman Gombe, a season administrator, Police Officer and Author has also served in numerous councils and committees. These include Member, Supreme Military Council, 1967 to 1975; Member, Interim Common Service of Northern Nigeria (ICSA), 1967 TO 1975; Member, Nigerian Police Council, 1967 to 1975; Chairman Gombe State (Creation) Movement, 1980; National Chairman, State Creation in Nigeria, 1983; Member, Federal Transition Implementation Committee, 1994 to 1997; Chairman Peugeot Distributors Association of Nigeria; Chairman, Doma Enterprises Limited; Member Arewa Consultative Forum; Elder Committee of Gombe State Chapter of Arewa Consultative Forum, etc.

In appreciation of his meritorious service to the nation, Late Alh. Usman Faruk was conferred with the prestigious title of the Commander of Order of the Niger (CON) in 2003. His other accolades under his belt include, Nigeria Independent Medal (NIM); Nigeria Police Long Service Medal (NPLSM); Meritorous Service Medal (MSM); and the traditional title of Jarman Gombe.

Alhaji Usman Faruk, CON died in the early hour today Friday the 18th December, 2020. May Almighty Allah forgive His Sin.

Governor Yusuf Approves 200 Riyals Support, Ihram for Each Kano Pilgrim

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a cash support of 200 Saudi Riyals and Ihram to each intending pilgrim from the state for the 2026 hajj exercise.

 

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, disclosed this on Sunday during the launch of the practical demonstration session organised by the Kano State pilgrims Welfare Board for prospective pilgrims in Kano.

 

Speaking at the event, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo explained that the exercise was organized to educate, inform, spiritually prepare the intending pilgrims for the Hajj rites from Ihram to Tawaf, from Sa’i to Arafat, from Muzdalifah to Mina and the symbolic stoning of the Jamarat.

He stated that the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to the welfare and well-being of all the pilgrims from the state.

 

Garo said, “This demonstration is a vital aspect of Hajj preparation. Hajj is not merely a journey of travel; it is a sacred act of worship that requires adequate knowledge, discipline, patience and sincere devotion to Allah.”

 

Garo further conveyed the Governor’s goodwill gesture to the pilgrims.

 

He added, “I also wish to give the good tidings to our pilgrims that the Kano State Government has approved the sum of 200 Saudi Riyals and Ihram to each and every intending pilgrim as a compliment from His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.”

 

The Deputy Governor also revealed that the administration has secured conducive accommodation arrangements to ensure the comfort and convenience of the pilgrims throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia.

 

According to him, the state government has equally deployed well-trained medical personnel to complement healthcare services provided by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), saying qualified Islamic scholars have also been selected to provide spiritual guidance during the exercise.

 

He urged the intending pilgrims to be worthy ambassadors of Kano State and Nigeria by obeying the laws of Saudi Arabia and conducting themselves with discipline, humility, and responsibility throughout the pilgrimage.

Six Kano Central senatorial aspirants have withdrawn for Senator Ibrahim Shekarau in the forthcoming 2027 general election.

One of the senatorial aspirants and a former Kano State Head of Service, Alhaji Usman Bala Muhammad, stated this while addressing journalists at Aminu Kano House in Abuja.

With both Mr. Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the NDC, and Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Hayatu-Deen in the ADC, the political atmosphere is set for a power play in 2027.
