Just In:NNPP Expels Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) said on Saturday that it had expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, a member of the House of Representatives, citing what it called anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations to the party.

Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, the party’s state chairman, told journalists in Kano that the decision followed what he described as Jibrin’s repeated attacks on the NNPP and its leadership in the media.

Dungurawa dismissed the lawmaker as a “weak politician” whose electoral victory was less about personal strength and more about the party and its influential Kwankwasiyya movement, led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“If he were truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed,” Dungurawa said. “It was only when he joined the NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Representatives member. Now he is deceiving himself, thinking he is strong.”

The chairman said a reconciliation committee was initially set up to engage Jibrin after his appearance on Channels Television, where he criticized the party. But according to him, a subsequent media outing confirmed that the lawmaker had “crossed the line.”

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa said.

He further accused Jibrin of defaulting on the payment of party dues, saying the NNPP would take legal action to recover the money.

“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he added.

On speculation that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa said such a move would not weaken the NNPP, insisting that “politics is about groups and coalitions” and that the Kwankwasiyya movement remained firmly behind Kwankwaso.

A delegation led by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has successfully secured the release of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel detained in Burkina Faso.

The soldiers were detained after their aircraft conducted a precautionary landing at the nearest airfield in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. The NAF stated the landing was due to an observed technical concern and was carried out in full compliance with standard safety and international aviation protocols.

The Burkinabé government, however, had initially described the unscheduled arrival as a breach of its sovereignty.

At the request of President Bola Tinubu, Minister Tuggar’s delegation met with Burkina Faso’s junta leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. According to a statement from the minister’s spokesperson, Alkasim Abdulkadir, the issue was “amicably resolved” following discussions.

The talks extended beyond the immediate incident, serving as a diplomatic channel to reaffirm ties. Abdulkadir noted that Tuggar conveyed a message of “solidarity and fraternity” from President Tinubu. Both parties discussed enhancing bilateral relations and regional integration, with a focus on coordinated political, security, and economic cooperation—particularly in addressing shared regional security challenges.

“Both sides agreed to sustain regular consultations and pursue practical measures to deepen bilateral cooperation and regional integration, reflecting a shared resolve to promote peace, unity, and stability in the sub-region,” the statement read.

The Nigerian delegation included high-ranking officials such as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Mohammed; the NAF Chief of Policy and Plans, A.Y. NMDPRA Boss, Engr. Farouk, Resigns Amidst Fraud Allegation

By Yusuf Danjuma Yunusa

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Engr. Ahmed Farouk, has tendered his resignation letter amidst corruption allegations levelled against him by the President of Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

The development was announced on Wednesday evening by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

This newspaper had reported that the Dangote’s petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) specifically alleges that Ahmed spent over $7 million on his children’s education in Switzerland—funds Dangote claims cannot be justified by a public servant’s legitimate earnings. The petition calls for Ahmed’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution.

Following the petition, the ICPC vows to scrutinize the allegation with due diligence.
