The All Progressives Congress (APC) Coalition of Media Pressure Groups in Kano State has called for the immediate resignation of the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, citing a series of internal crises, alleged corruption, and divisive leadership practices.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Kano NUJ Secretariat on Saturday , the Chairman of the Coalition, Nura Na’annabi, expressed disappointment over what he described as the deteriorating condition of the APC under the leadership of Abdullahi Abbas. He said the group, made up of various grassroots APC support groups such as Yan Takwas and Kadangaren Bakin Tulu Representation, is concerned about the future of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Na’annabi said the party had suffered from a lack of cooperation among members, rampant allegations of corruption, lack of transparency in the conduct of primary elections, and general disintegration of party structure in the state. He stated that these issues are evidence of failed leadership under the current party chairman.

“We are happy with the stepping down of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the National Chairman of the APC, and we are optimistic that the new national leadership under Bukar Dalori will bring reform and transparency,” Na’annabi noted.

He added that it was time for the APC in Kano to experience a similar change. “We are using this opportunity to call on the Kano State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, to resign immediately for the sake of the party’s future.”

The group also accused Abbas of running an autocratic style of leadership, issuing unguided statements, and fostering division within the party, which they say has significantly undermined the APC’s unity and chances in upcoming elections.

On his part, Comrade Abdullahi Abubakar Dangarinan, a leading member of the coalition, urged the Acting National Chairman of the APC, Bukar Dalori, to dissolve all existing state executive councils, including that of Kano. He argued that this would restore credibility and unity within the party structure.

“We urge Bukar Dalori to consider this a priority step in bringing back the party’s lost charisma and public trust,” Dangarinan said. “Abdullahi Abbas must resign before July 5, or we will not hesitate to take legal action against him.”

Dangarinan also expressed support for efforts by the national leadership to reconcile with political stakeholders, including the potential return of Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the APC fold.

The group maintained that failure to address their concerns would result in further legal and political action to restore accountability and internal democracy within the APC in Kano State.
