Concerned residents and alumni of Kano Commercial School Airport Road Kano are calling on the Kano State Government to demolish a hotel they claim is negatively impacting the morality of students. The hotel, which was allegedly sited illegally at the entrance of the school, has sparked outrage among parents, teachers, and former students.

Bashir Sharif Ibrahim Liman, President of the Kano Commercial School Old Boys Association, addressed journalists at the school, expressing deep concern over the proximity of the hotel to the educational institution. He emphasized that the location of the hotel poses a significant threat to the moral development of the students, who are mostly adolescents.

Liman revealed that despite repeated complaints to the Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission, the Kano Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), and the Kano State Hisbah Board, no action has been taken by the concerned agencies to address the situation.

“We have raised this issue with all the relevant authorities, yet nothing has been done,” Liman said. “The hotel is situated on government-owned land, previously used as a pedestrian walkway, and its presence at the school gate is unacceptable. We don’t even know who authorized the construction of the hotel.”

The Old Boys Association, along with concerned residents, is now urging the state government to take immediate action and demolish the hotel. They argue that the establishment’s location is inappropriate, especially given the vulnerable age group of the students, and that it could lead to a decline in moral standards within the school community.

The call for demolition reflects a broader concern over the encroachment of commercial activities into areas meant for educational purposes, and the potential impact such developments could have on the upbringing of young students in Kano.

They also accused the immediate past  Principal of the college who carted away schools properties including a generator, computers among others .

They appealed to relevant authorities to pressurize the former principal to return the school properties allegedly stolen
