NNPC Ltd Clarifies Lagos Depot Fire Incident

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) wishes to clarify that the fire incident at a tank farm in Marine Beach, Apapa, Lagos, was at a depot belonging to HOGL Energy Ltd (Honeywell Depot), and not an NNPC Retail Ltd.’s facility as circulated by early responders.

The fire, which has since been extinguished, was as a result of petroleum products spillage within the perimeter of the tank farm.

Meanwhile, NNPC Ltd and other depots in the area have resumed loading activities.
NNPC assures that the incident will, in no way, affect petroleum products supply and distribution across the country.

Breaking : Kano postpones Schools Resumption Date

Kano State Government has postponed resumption date of both Primary and Post Primary Schools for the commencement of 2024/2025 academic session.

A statement signed by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru quoted the Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa explaining that the decision to postpone the resumption date is compelled by some urgent reasons.

Umar Doguwa disclosed that another day for the schools resumption would soon be announced by the ministry.

” I wish to inform pupils, students and parents that the announcement earlier made for schools resumption on 8th and 9th Sept, 2024 is now being postponed due to some urgent reasons that would help in improving conducive learning atmosphere for our children. Another day for the resumption will be announced in due course ” the commissioner stated.

The statement however appealed to the people concern especially Students and Parents/Guardians to bear with any inconvenience that may be caused due to the postponement.

Army Chief Inaugurates Students Hostel In Kano

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on Friday, inaugurated Community Students Hostel built for Sumaila Local Government students studying in Kano.

Inaugurating the project in Wailari quarters, Lagbaja said the project was part of the efforts by the Nigerian Army to encourage learning in the state.

He said that the Special Intervention Project was initiated by his office to support communities of serving senior officers of the Nigerian army, who rose to the enviable rank of Major Generals through dedication to duty and service to the nation.

Lagbaja, represented by the GOC One Division, Kaduna, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, said that the project would complement the existing infrastructure in the state, promote and strengthen civil-military cooperation in the benefitting communities.

According to him, the initiative will further serve as an avenue for the military to associate with the communities.

He congratulated the Project Executor, Maj.- Gen. Sani Ibrahim, who is the Commandant, Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology, on the timely completion of the project and the quality of work done.

Lagbaja also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his continuous strategic ideas and support to the Nigerian Army.

In a remark, the Army Chief of Civil Military Relations, Maj.-Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, commended COAS for funding the project and giving back to Nigerians as well as putting smiles on the faces of the benefitting communities.

He described the projects as products of healthy symbiotic relationship between the military and civilian population.

Ugbo called on Kano residents to support and provide credible and timely intelligence to security agencies to enhance their operations.

He further urged the natives of the benefitting community to make best use of the facility.

Earlier in an address, the project executor said that the projects would further enhance the image of the Nigerian Army and commended the Army Chief for instituting the programme.

Ibrahim said that the hostel, which had three dometries with 30 bunks and a water borehole, would cater for many students of the community.

The lawmaker representing Kano South Senatorial District, Sen. Kawu Sumaila, lauded the Nigerian Army for establishing the project, stating that it would go a long way in helping the students of higher education in the area.

Some of the students, who spoke to our correspondent thanked COAS for the gesture.

They said that the hostel would help to ease their accommodation problem and improve their learning.

The Kano chapter of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has inaugurated its new executive members in a ceremony held in Kano.

The oath of office was administered by Barrister Adama from the Kano State Ministry of Justice, marking the formal handover of responsibilities to the newly elected leaders.

Bahijja Malam Kabara, a seasoned journalist from the Kano State Ministry of Information, was sworn in as the new Chairperson of the association.

In her inaugural address, Kabara emphasized her commitment to upholding professionalism within the media, particularly among women journalists.

She outlined her key priorities, which include training and retraining female journalists, promoting gender equity in media representation, and forging partnerships with the government to improve the welfare of women and children.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several high-ranking NAWOJ and NUJ officials. Among them were Aisha K. Burra, the National President of NAWOJ, Wasila Ladan, the National Secretary, and Abdulrazaq Bello Kaura, the Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). They all lauded the newly sworn-in executives and expressed confidence in their ability to steer the association forward.
