The ongoing rehabilitation

The historic Coronation Hall in Kano holds a special significance in the city’s royal heritage as it was originally built for the coronation of the 14th Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi.

The hall, which witnessed his presentation of the staff of office after succeeding late Alhaji Ado Bayero in 2014 during the administration of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is now undergoing extensive rehabilitation to restore its former grandeur.

One essential element of this restoration project is the return of the portrait of the 14th Emir, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi, to its rightful place within the hall. As per tradition, the picture will be preserved there indefinitely, commemorating the notable reign of the former emir.

The ongoing rehabilitation aims to give the Coronation Hall a much-needed facelift, preserving its historical significance and cultural heritage.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, confirmed that the restoration of the hall includes bringing back the picture of the esteemed 14th emir.

The Coronation Hall holds deep sentimental value for the people of Kano, and its refurbishment reflects a commitment to preserving the region’s rich history and heritage for future generations.

Local authorities have expressed their dedication to ensuring the successful completion of the rehabilitation project, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Kano’s cultural legacy. As the work progresses, residents eagerly anticipate the hall’s reopening, where the restored portrait of Malam Muhammadu Sanusi will take its rightful place as a symbol of Kano’s royal legacy
