Senator Abdullahi Adamu has emerged as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), about a year and nine months after the Adams Oshiomhole led National Working Committee (NWC) was dissolved.

He was returned unopposed on Saturday at the party’s national convention held at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Adamu, a serving member of the Senate representing Nasarawa West and former governor of the state, is President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice for the job.

Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, who is also Chairman of the Electoral Committee, announced Adamu as the winner of the contest after he was endorsed by party members and leaders at the convention via a voice vote.

He had gone into the election as the consensus candidate following the withdrawal of his co-contenders from the contest.

Adamu replaces Oshiomhole as the substantive APC national chairman after the NWC chaired by the former was sacked in June 2020.

He, however, takes over from Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State who was appointed to administer the affairs of the party pending when a convention would be conducted.

Barely a day to the convention, the coast got cleared Adamu after six aspirants from the north-central region eyeing the ruling party’s top job stepped down for him.

They include the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume; former governors Tanko Al-Makura and Abdul’Aziz Yari, as well as Senator Sani Musa, Saliu Mustapha, and Muhammed Etsu.

As Nigerians gear up for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitri celebrations, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide special patrol to ensure safe and smooth travel.

The operation, running from March 27 to April 2, 2025, aims to curb road crashes, enforce traffic laws, and respond swiftly to emergencies.

To achieve this, FRSC has mobilised thousands of personnel, including Special Marshals, and deployed 754 patrol vehicles, 143 ambulances, 48 tow trucks, and radar guns to check speeding.

Key highways across the country will be closely monitored, with 16 traffic control camps and 53 critical routes under surveillance.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasised the need for strict enforcement against reckless driving, overloading, and road obstructions.

He also urged motorists to plan their journeys wisely, avoid overspeeding, and adhere to traffic regulations warning that Mobile Courts will be set up nationwide to prosecute offenders.

The FRSC is working in collaboration with security agencies and emergency services to manage gridlocks and respond to distress calls.

Motorists are encouraged to report traffic situations via the FRSC mobile app, social media, or the toll-free emergency number 122.

With this proactive approach, the Corps is determined to make this year’s Eid-el-Fitri travel season safer for all Nigerians.
