Gawuna Declares Open The 2022 Law Week in Kano

Kano State Governor Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on monday declared open the 2022 Law Week organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kano Branch.

In his speech at the elaborate ceremony held at Amani Event Centre,the Governor represented by his deputy Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna assures of the State Government’s continued support towards providing enabling environment for the lawyers to discharge their work effectively.

He however commended the State branch of the NBA for successfully organising the Law Week event.

On his part, Attorney General of Federation(AGF) and Minister of Justice,Abubakar Malami SAN represented by the Special Assistant to the President on Public Prosecution, Rabi’u Yusuf Hausawa while extending felicitations to the organisers of the event emphasized that the office of the AGF remains committed to ensure justice for everyone in the country.

Speaking earlier,the Chairman of Kano Branch of the NBA, Aminu Sani Gadanya said the theme: “Legal Practice At Crossroads: Challenges of Lawyering in the face of Nigeria’s current political and economic climate” is aimed at identifying the challenges faced by lawyers in the current situation of the country and also look into the role and opportunities lawyers have.

In a statement by the Deputy Governors CPS Hassan Musa Fagge said thehe event was attended by Judges of the Court of Appeal Kano, Chief Judge of Kano State Justice Nura Sagir Umar,A legal luminary Prof.Auwalu Hamisu Yadudu, Former NBA President Abubakar Balarabe Mahmud, Commissioners for Justice for Kano and Jigawa States respectively among others.

18-Year-Old Suspect in Niger State Murder Case Dies in Police Custody

An 18-year-old suspect, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, who was accused of killing a retired Permanent Secretary in Niger State, Adamu Jagaba, has died in police custody.

Police sources confirmed Abdulhakeem’s death on Thursday, although the exact cause remains unclear. The suspect, recently paraded by Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmama, admitted during his arrest to being hired by workers of the deceased to carry out the murder at Jagaba’s block industry near the PDP Secretariat in Minna.

The Niger State Police Spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said Abdulhakeem complained of severe stomach pain and coughing on December 19. He was taken to the General Hospital, Minna, for treatment but died while receiving medical attention. His body has been deposited at the hospital morgue, pending a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death. Investigations are ongoing.

Garo felicitates with Ganduje @75

The deputy governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Kano at the 2023 general election, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo has congratulated the National Chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on his 75th birthday celebration, describing him as master of the game.

Garo in a special birthday message to the former governor of Kano State, on Wednesday, said that Ganduje’s visionary leadership has fostered greater cohesion and that ultimately led to the party’s victory in four out of five off-cycle elections.

Dr Ganduje was born on 25 December 1949.
