More Than 50,000 Northerners Languishing In Lagos Prisons- Northern Youth

An estimated number of fifty thousand northerners are currently Languishing in Lagos Prisons.

The Northern Youth Unity Forum based in southern stated dropped the hint while addressing newsmen in Kano.

Ibrahim Usman who address newsmen on behalf the forum’s chairman Dr. Ibrahim Yau Galadanchi said even last month the forum secured the release of more than 500 Northerners jailed in Lagos Prisons.

According to Ibrahim Usman thier offence is nothing other than going to Lagos in search of greener pastures and to secure jobs.

When asked by newsmen on the reasons for their arrest, he said when they trooped from different northern states and arrive Lagos ,the various security organs and the area boys asked them what are you here for they said we are looking for jobs ,they said where is the job ,then they arrest them and lock them in prisons.

The Northern Youth Unity Forum based in the south south also lamented the negligence of the northern governors who are suppose to provide jobs and security in their respective states for the northern youth to stay in their region and earn a living.

They called further called on Northern governors to visit the state and engage the Lagos state government on the fate of thousands of Northerners being persecuted in Lagos.

The Northern Youth Unity Forum also called on the federal government in synergy with state governments to strengthen security and look inward before coming up with state police.

They further called on Northern politicians to build skill acquisition centres in all the local governments in the North in order to put a stop to the persecution of Northern Youth in Lagos and other southern states.

Army Inter-Brigade combat proficiency competition opens in Kano

The 1 Division, Nigerian Army inter-brigade competition has opened in Kano on Monday with participants drawn from three brigades under the division.

The proficiency competition was for personnel from the ranks of corporal and below.

The participants are drawn from 1Division Garrison, Kaduna; 31Artilary Brigade, Minna in Niger and the host, 3 Brigade, Kano.

They will compete for honours in drills, weapons handling, map reading and obstacle crossings.

According to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Division, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the aim of the competition is to test the efficiency, endurance and mental capacity of the participants.

“The corporal and below competition is one of the activities outlined in the Nigerian Army forecast of events 2024.

“The event is aimed at improving leadership skills and professional competence, promote espirit-de-corps and prepare the personnel in Cpl and below ranks bracket for higher responsibilities,” he said.

Saraso, who declared the four-day competition opened, added that the event would test the  physical fitness of the soldiers and their readiness to counter security challenges.

The GOC, represented by Commander, 3 Brigade, Brig.- Gen. Musa Sadiq, said that the event could not have come at a better time than now when there were growing concerns on the numerous security challenges confronting the nation.

“The current security challenges have brought to the fore the need to continuously reinvigorate our training and operations, especially physical and leadership trainings,” he added.

Earlier, the brigade commander said that the competition would provide opportunity for the soldiers to meet their counterparts within the division’s area of responsibility.

He appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja for providing necessary resources for the competition.

The brigade commander urged the soldiers to compete fairly and be good ambassadors of their brigades.

“I want to urge all participants to put in their best so as to derive the maximum benefits from the competition and also make your various formations proud

“The only way you can do this is by abiding by the rules and regulations guiding the competition and also to exhibit the spirit of togetherness,” he added.

APC Denies Suspending Ganduje

The executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dawakin Tofa Local Government and the Ganduje Ward Executive Committee members in Kano State have reacted to the purported suspension of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje from the ruling party.

The executives in a joint statement signed by Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Koko, Chairman of APC Ganduje Ward said the purported suspension of the National Chairman of the party, was announced by non-APC members in the ward.

Addressing a press conference in Kano on behalf of the Ward and Local Government Executive Committee Members, he said: “Those who addressed the press conference were sponsored by the NNPP state government, and from the record of the Party at the Ward, Local Government and State, they are not card- carrying members of the APC.

He therefore said the purported suspension was null and void and would have no effect on the National Chairman.

“The Ward and Local Government Executives, having identified the persons involved in this unfortunate situation, have already prepared to charge them to court for impersonation and calculated attempts to embarrass and dent the image of the Party and that of the National Chairman”.

He called on all Party members to disregard the purported suspension and remain calm.

It could be recalled that Malam Haladu Gwanjo, who claimed to be the Legal Adviser of APC in Ganduje Ward, had earlier announced the purported suspension of the party’s national chairman.

Gwanjo, who cited alleged corruption and other vices as reasons for the suspension, said that the decision was taken by nine executive members of party in Ganduje ward

Breaking :APC Suspends Ganduje

The All progressives Congress Ganduje ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Governmnent area of Kano  have suspended the party’s National chairman Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje from the party at the ward level.

The party’s legal adviser Ganduje ward Haladu Gwanjo stated this while addressing news men in Kano.

Haladu Gwanjo said they decided to suspend Dr Ganduje from the party at the ward level due to the allegations levels against him by Kano state Governmnet on bribery and other Matters .

 

They said the suspension starts from today 15 April until he cleared himself from the allegations .

9 Executives of the ward signed the suspension at the ward level .
