Published

on

By Abbas Yushau Yusuf

As the 2023 general elections is coming closer by the day politicians are emerging in an effort to capture the Kano state government House.

In the history of the state’s politics there has been no time like this when experienced and inexperienced politicians are trying hard to join the bandwagon of those eying the highest sit in Kano.

Politicians from PDP and APC are trying hard to realize their ambition and in making it to the government House.

Here is a chronology of some of the politicians who want succeed Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje come 2023.

But NIGERIAN TRACKER investigation has revealed that some of them may be jokers and pretenders to the Kano state government House.

Senator Barau I Jibrin

Senator Barau Jibrin has been in politics since the 1999 general elections when Nigeria was returning to constitutional rule ,Barau who is currently at logger heads with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,he is said to be eying the Governorship seat since the completion of 2019 general elections.

Barau who currently chairs the senate committee on appropriation is among the G7 members who conducted a parallel congress in Kano on the 16th of October 2019.

Senator Barau I Jibrin aka Maliya was a member of the House of Representatives under the people’s Democratic Party from 1999 to 2003 representing Tarauni federal constituency before he was swept away by General Muhammadu Buhari’s tsunami in the 2003 General election.

The reasons for Barau’s joining the G7 that formed the parallel congress may not be unconnected with the news going round the state that he is not being favored by the Governor to succeed him in the 2023 general elections within the fold of the All progressives congress.

Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna

Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna is the current Deputy Governor of Kano state,he became Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s Deputy in 2018 after the resignation of Professor Hafizu Abubakar in August the same year, but since the declaration made by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s wife that anointed the state commissioner of local government ,Gawuna is not seeing as a the favored candidate of the state government.
Nasiru Gawuna has been in the murky waters of Kano politics since the year 2004 when he became the chairman of Nassarawa local government.

The Deputy Governor is becoming more composed these days as he prepares to have a shot at Kano government House.
Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna recently grows a grey beard which to many people is a sign that he is prepared to clinch the number one sit in Kano.

Abba Kabiru Yusuf

Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf was the Kano state commissioner of works and housing during the second tenure of Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the governor of Kano state, Abba Kabiru won the first round of Kano Gubernatorial election in 2019 before inconclusive arrangement by the Independent National electoral commission that later declared Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the Governor.

Abba Kabiru Yusuf is said to be the candidate of Kwankwasiyya within the PDP in the 2023 general elections.

But still there are those nursing the ambition within the Kwankwasiyya fold like Dr Yunusa Adamu Dangwani.

Inuwa Ibrahim Waya

Inuwa Ibrahim Waya who recently retired from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation having work for 32 years is warming up to succeed Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in 2023 within the APC.

Inuwa Waya who hails from the ancient city in Kano is said to be favored by powerful quarters within the Kano government to succeed Governor Ganduje.
Despite the anointment of Murtala Sule by Governor Ganduje’s wife still there are strategies being employed by the APC in Kano to merge Inuwa Ibrahim Waya with Murtala Sule Garo on the APC ticket.
Muaz Magaji Dawakin Tofa

Muaz Magaji Dawakin Tofa who is very popular on the social media has been nursing the ambition to become Governor of Kano state since the year 2015 when he was with the Kwankwasiyya movement, but the anointment of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje by Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in 2015 made people like Muazu Magaji to back out from the race.

The Head of Win Win movement ,Muazu Magaji was sacked in the year 2020 as Kano state commissioner of works by Governor Ganduje for celebrating the death of President Buhari’s chief of staff Abba Kyari on facebook.
Muaz Magaji was also recently sacked as the coordinator of AKK Gas piplene project by Governor Ganduje and has already joined the G7 movement in Kano that conducted parallel congress which saw the emergence of Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Zago as factional chairman in Kano

Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado
The former Chairman of Kano state public complain and Anti corruption commission who is also at logger heads with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje after recommendation for his suspension by Kano state House of assembly is said to be nursing the ambition of becoming the governor of Kano state.

Muhuyi Magaji became popular in Kano state due to his much wide publicity in fighting corruption and in resolving public complains cases.

But its not yet known under which party he is going to contest the election.
His posters had recently flooded the streets of Kano.

Hassan Abdulhamid Hassan

Hassan Abdulhamid Hassan may be among the joker to the Kano state Government House ,he is the son of former Kano state commissioner of education Alhaji Abdulhamid Hassan and currently works with the consumer protection council in as Head of Kano office.

He is yet to declare in which political party he wants to contest.

Gov. Gida-Gida and Ganduje: The Firing of Unwarranted Political Salvos-Adamu Aminu

Former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Successor Abba Kabir Yusuf

By Adamu Aminu.

It is extremely disheartening to see how recently our two elder statesmen, the Kano state Governor, His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusif, politically known as Abba Gida-Gida, and his immediate predecessor, the ex-Kano and present APC National chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, are busy exchanging salvos directly at each other.

The exchanges of verbal brawls through their spokesmen emanated shortly after Governor Abba Kabir Yusif inaugurated two judicial commissions of inquiry to investigate cases of misappropriation of public property, political violence, and missing persons from 2015 to 2019 to 2023.

It was unfortunate; all the accusations and counter-accusations from both sides were riddled with harsh and demeaning words, deemed unrepeatable and unworthy to come from our respected leaders who are beating chests of leading Kano, the state that has reached the zenith of political maturity in the whole nation.

I was automatically dumbfounded by how the exchanged salvos and political sarcasm were randomly so directed at each other, without revisiting the fact that history never lies; someday, posterity will judge them.

This comes at a time when the warring parties should set aside their differences and make Kano their concern and priority, but they resorted to opening the doors of all blackmailing arsenals at their disposal, overtly directed at each other, without knowing that their utterances and accusations are doing more harm than good to Kano state in general.

This came at a time when our counterpart States in the South, like Lagos, Rivers, and others, have already set politics aside and deeply engaged in the execution of developmental projects for their people, but Kano, a state of whole-tenure politics, is dragging feet towards the fulfillment of promises during electioneering campaigns.

At this time when most Kano industries are not functional, there is no portable water, unemployment, poverty, hunger, and thuggery clogging the wheels of Kano’s economic development, instead, they resorted to engaged in trading bitter words and pointing accusing fingers at themselves.

I think it’s time for our Excellency, the state governor Abba Kabir Yusif, and his predecessor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to wake up from their slumbers and stop demeaning themselves politically.

Trading accusations of one’s incompetence, docility, and another’s accusation of land grabbing and rat-like behavior is not the utmost priority for Kano populace.

It’s time to stop deceiving ourselves with the longstanding Kano praise “Kano Tumbin Giwa, Ko dame Kazo An Fika,” which means Kano, the melting pot, whatever you came along with, you’re far left behind. Kano state in this modern era deserves to be far from where it is now.

I do hope and pray that Governor Abba and his predecessor Ganduje make Kano and Kanawas their utmost priority. They are our role models, exchanging incendiary remarks with each other will show that politics isn’t only a dirty game, it’s a dirty war of raining curses and abuses.

They should know that someday around this time, they will be no more; only their legacies will make them immortal in the memory of Kano populace.

At a prayer conference organized by Honourable Seyi, the non-indigenous Christian community gathered to intercede for Dr Nasir Gawuna, seeking divine intervention in the pursuit of reclaiming his mandate.
