Jigawa  High Court Sentenced 3 Rapists to 63 Years Imprisonment , 1 Rapist to life imprisonment

The Ministry of Justice Jigawa State, on Thursday 10th December 2020, secured the conviction of one Ibrahim Yusuf aged 34years, from Kangire village Birnin kudu LGA before the High Court of Justice Jigawa State sitting at Birnin Kudu presided over by Hon Justice Musa Ubale in a case of rape and act of gross indecency.

The convict was arraigned before the court in State vs. Ibrahim Yusuf Case no. JDU/82C/A/2019 and he pleaded not guilty.

At the end of the trial, the learned trial judge in his judgment found that the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The convict was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for the offence of rape and five (5) years for gross indecency. The victims of the crimes are minors.

In another case, State vs. Dauda Malam Mato Charge No JDU/52C/A/2019, the defendant aged 35 years also from Kangire village, Birnin kudu LGA had been charged with the offence of rape against a minor girl.

The defendant is also from Kangire village Birnin Kudu. After he was arraigned he denied the charge.

The prosecution led evidence in proof of the allegation. The defendant was convicted and sentenced to 21 years imprisonment by Honourable Justice Musa Ubale of Jigawa State High Court sitting at Birnin Kudu.

In State vs. Rabiu Usman, Case no. JDU/53C/A/2019, the defendant who is 38 years old from Kangire village Birnin Kudu was also charged for the offence of rape before Honourable Justice Musa Ubale.

He denied the charge and evidence were given by the prosecution in establishing the case against him. At the end of the trial, he was convicted and sentenced to 21years imprisonment. The victim, in this case, is also a minor.

In the case of State Vs Adamu Abdullahi, Case No. JDU/20C/2018, one Adamu Abdullahi ‘M’ 38 yrs of Tandanu Village in Kiri-Kasamma Local Government was arraigned for rape before High Court of Justice sitting at Hadejia presided over by Hon Justice Ado Yusuf Birnin Kudu.

In a statement by Zainab Baba Santali Public Relations Officer Jigawa State Ministry Of Justice Said The defendant was accused of raping a minor. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution called five witnesses, three officials while two non-officials. The defence presented one witness. On 24/11/2019, the defendant convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Fubara’s Whereabouts Unknown As Military Moves Trucks Into Rivers Govt House

The movement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara was unknown on Tuesday night when the military moved trucks into Rivers Government House in Port Harcourt.

The trucks were placed within and outside the Government House on the first night of the State of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu declared emergency rule amid the attacks on oil installations in Rivers State.

Some militants groups had threatened to blow up pipelines if the Rivers House of Assembly impeach Fubara.

However, hours after the lawmakers served the governor with notice of alleged misconduct, the militants carried out their threat.

Breaking :President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency in Rivers state,Removes Democratic Structures

The president made the announcement on Tuesday in a nationwide broadcast over the political crisis and instability in the state.

Tinubu said Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state; his deputy, Ngozi Odu; and all members of the Rivers assembly are “hereby suspended for an initial period of six months”.

“Having soberly reflected on and evaluated the political situation in Rivers State and the Governor and Deputy Governor of Rivers State having failed to make a request to me as President to issue this proclamation as required by section 305(5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, it has become inevitably compelling for me to invoke the provision of section 305 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State with effect from today, 18th March, 2025 and I so do,” the president said.

Tinubu meets with service chiefs in Aso Rock

President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a high-level meeting with the service chiefs at the State House.

Among those in attendance are Christopher Musa, chief of defence staff; Olufemi Oluyede, chief of army staff; Emmanuel Ogalla, chief of naval staff; Hassan Abubakar, chief of air staff; and Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police.
