Pest Control Pivotal TO Agricultural Development ,says Ganduje

Governor of Kano State, Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stated that control of migratory pests that attack and destroy cereals particularly rice,millet and wheat is meant to prevent loss of the crops.

According to him, the measure is in line with the Federal and State Government policy of Agricultural transformation aimed at boosting production for food security and economic stability.

The Governor represented by his Deputy Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna made the statement monday, while flagging-up the National trans-boundary aerial pest control exercise held at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport,Kano.

“Control of Quelea birds results in increase in yield of many crops per hectare and quantity of various agricultural produce we export as well as ensure safer and higher productivity says Ganduje”.

While appreciating the effort of the Federal Government for conducting aerial operation against the migratory birds in 8 local governments of the State namely:Bagwai,Bebeji,Bunkure,Garun Mallam,Kura,Makoda,Rano and Warawa in recent years, however the Governor advised the Federal Ministry Of Agriculture and Rural Development to provide nets to the farmers,destroy roosting sites and ensure use of resistant varieties of the affected crops.

In his remarks,the Minister Of Agriculture and Rural Development Alhaji Sabo Nanono explained that the 2020 Dry season control of migratory pests is commencing in 12 frontline states due to the threat the cereal production is facing over the years.

“Due to the destructive effects of these pests especially on cereal crops, the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry Of Agriculture and Rural Development has been inundated with requests by State Governments to carry out speedly targeted aerial and ground control operation against the pests in order to salvage the expected rice bumper harvest Nanono said”.

He maintained that the President Buhari administration has initiated many interventions in the Agriculture sector especially in the current COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the world with the aim of mitigating the impact of the dreaded disease,create gainful employment and ensure socio-economic development.

“The Federal Ministry Of Agriculture and Rural Development has so far registered over 5 million farmers in the country country out of which over 500,000 are from Kano..the data gathered would help in proper documentation and ensure smooth running of agricultural activities the minister emphasised”.

He however acknowledgedthe tremendous contribution of Kano State Government to the development of agriculture adding that with cooperation among stakeholders all obstacles that will endanger food and nutritional security can be eliminated in the country.

In a statement by Deputy Governor’s Chief Press Secretary Hassan Musa Fagge said The Governor and the Minister later inspected the Flight demonstration of aerial pest control by AZMAN Group at the airport.

Eid-el-Fitr Sallah: Emir Sanusi avoid security breach, returns to 1903 traditional homage

Eid-el-Fitr sallah celebration continues amid peaceful atmosphere in Kano as Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, returns to 1903 traditional Hauwa Nassarawa homage, a cherished cultural heritage of Dabo clan to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at government house.

In compliance with the security prohibition of Sallah Durbar and specially so, to avoid security breach, Khalifa Sanusi abandoned the procession of horse ride and cut down the large crowd company of traditional title holders, a modern practice adopted in 1940.

Apart from abandoning the horse ride, Emir Sanusi who drove in exortic vehicle convoy also diverted his movement from the normal State road routes to Government house, strategically to avoid possible clash of interest.

Putting the historical fact in proper perspective, a Professor of History, Bayero University, Kano, Professor Tijjani Naniya, explained that before 1940 the Emir as head of Native Authority, only visits the residence and returned to his palace.

He said, “before 1940, there was no Wajen Kano that is outskirts the City, and the Emir as the head of NA, he will pay only his visit to Government house to brief the Governor on the yearly happenings in the City and returned to his palace.

” But by 1940 and when outskirts Kano that is Wajen Kano was created and there were People who though must of whom were Hausas but not of Kano extraction, the Emir needed to go round and see them, the present day Hawan Nassarwa using Horses was introduced”.

On the security restriction, Professor Tijjani Naniya, revealed that what the police banned was “Procession of Horses” in any form. He added that the emir in compliance to the directive restricted all horse rides and came to government house with vehicles to pay Homage to the Governor.

He said, “what was stopped is for the Emir to ride on horses and pass through State Roads, that for sure would create a problems but now that he has returned to the original means of the Hawan Nassarwa tradition there is not violation”.

“And the Emir is only coming to Government House as against the usual Hawan Nassarwa that he will ride horses go round Kano to greet everybody and return to his Palace”. Naniya explained.

Sports Without Borders in collaboration with Educate A Generation have concluded arrangements to storm Nigeria for an higher education exhibition programme targeteting young Nigerians .

 

The exhibition is to avail Nigerians not excluding athletes, coaches and sports officials and Nigerian youths in general with the avenue to access quality education services from top universities in Asia, US, Canada and north Africa.

The founder, Educate A Generation Foundation. Ousman Camara Expressed his delight to take the torch of education development to Nigeria.

Camara who could not conceal his anticipation to arrive Nigeria for the exercise said “ we all know the strategic status and enviable records of Nigeria in all spheres of human endeavors .

“it is my noblest dream to take the best opportunities to our brothers and sisters in Nigeria, to give room for the next generation from the most populous African country, is one great opportunity any genuine human development workers can not resists” Camara said.

The Executive Director, Sports Without Borders Development Association, Abdulgafar Oladimeji , in a statement issued in Kano, Monday . said the planned education exhibition would serve as a massive boost for young Nigerians, who want to live their dreams of attending some of the top most higher education institutions across the globe.

He said “ most interesting is that the Nigerian exhibition programme will give attention to talented sports men and women to utilize their talents to secure admissions as they also they stand the chance of getting scholarships .

“our young generation would also have the platform to access how they can pursue their dreams of becoming elite athletes and also pursue their academic dreams.

Our correspondent gathered that the education entourage would be arriving Nigeria in mid 2025 for the education exhibition scheduled to be hosted in FCT Abuja and Kano

Checks revealed further that , Camara an alumni of George Town University, Qatar, GU-Q, had dedicated himself to the mission of service to humanity.

In 2019, Ousman founded the Educate a Generation Foundation in The Gambia, an educational consultant across Africa, who pioneered initiatives like “Kids in Technology” ith the purpose to integrate digital literacy into African schools.

Camara designed and launched a Bridge Program at Lamin and Kadie Bah Academy in Sierra Leone.“It’s a deeply personal project inspired by my own transformative experience at the Qatar Foundation’s ABP,”

Educate a Generation Foundation (EAG) is a pioneering nonprofit organization committed to transforming the lives of African youths.

It would be recalled that the President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar Alistair Routledge had once presented a donation cheque to the chief executive officer of EAA in the presence of President of Qatar Tennis Federation Nasser bin Ghanim al Khelaifi and Senior Vice-President of Exxon Mobil Corporation Andrew P Swiger,at the 2019 Qatar ExxonMobil Open award ceremony in Doha .

ExxonMobil Foundation had contributed QR1.8 million to a school construction project overseen by Education Above All Foundation (EAA).

Verified sources said “The contribution had supported the construction of 25 new primary schools in Angola in partnership with Rise International. The project is part of the Educate A Child (EAC) programme, which operates under the EAA umbrella and provides educational opportunities to the most marginalized and hardest to reach out of school children around the world.

Edo Killings: Governor Yusuf Demands Public Parade of Suspects, Compensation for Victims

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called for a public parade of the suspects arrested in connection with the brutal killing of 16 Kano indigenes in Udene, Uromi Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Governor also reiterated the need for full compensation to the families of the victims as part of justice for the heinous act.

Governor Yusuf made this demand on Monday when he received Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who led a delegation to Kano to offer condolences over the tragic incident.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf insisted that the swift arrest of the perpetrators must be followed by a transparent process, including a public parade to assure Nigerians that justice is being served.

“We appreciate the prompt action taken so far, but justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done. The people of Kano, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve to see those responsible for this massacre brought to justice publicly,” Governor Yusuf stated.

He further commended Governor Okpebholo for engaging with Hausa community leaders in Edo State to prevent escalation and for committing to compensating the bereaved families.

“The compensation promised is a commendable step, but it must be executed without delay to support the grieving families who have lost their breadwinners,” he added.

Governor Yusuf also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for directing security agencies to take immediate action and emphasized that such atrocities must never be repeated in any part of Nigeria.

Earlier, Governor Okpebholo, while expressing deep sorrow over the killings, assured that his administration would ensure that justice is served swiftly and fairly.

“I rushed to Uromi as soon as I got the news. I met with the Hausa community there, and we worked to ease tensions. I want to assure you that those responsible will face the full wrath of the law,” Governor Okpebholo said.

The Kano State Government maintains its stance that justice must be fully implemented to restore confidence among citizens and prevent further incidents of ethnic violence in the country.
