Kano Complies With Presidential Directive On Prison Decongestion

Kano state government has facilitated the release of scores of prison inmates in compliance with Presidential directives on decongestion of Correctional centers.

This is even before the advent of Covid 19, which necessitated social distancing measures to reduce the spread of the virus, which is transmitted by air droplets.

The state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje disclosed this when he received the new Controller of Correction, Kano State Command, Alh. Sulaiman T. Sulaiman who paid him a visit.

“Through our committee on Prerogative of Mercy, we are adhering to the presidential directive on decongestion of Correctional centers. During festive seasons like Sallah, I personally visit the Correctional Centers to oversee the release of prisoners especially those whose penalties are fines”, he stated.

Dr. Ganduje further stated that his administration has made provision for donation of starter kits to support inmates who had acquired skills in the Correctional Centers, so that they can fend for themselves as soon as they regain their freedom.

“This is in addition to transport fare for each released inmate as part of effort to promote social re-integration. It is our hope that these efforts will assist in making them responsible members of the society”.
He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for constructing a mega Correctional Center in the outskirts of Kano city, announcing that the state government had already paid compensation for land acquired for the project.

The governor, however, stressed the need for the Nigeria Correctional Service to mount pressure on the Federal Government to ensure speedy completion and commissioning of the project in view of its importance.

Director General Media and Communication s Ameen Yassar said Gov. Ganduje, who highlighted the pivotal role of Correctional Centers in information gathering and security management, requested the new State Controller of Correction to participate actively as a member of the State Security Council.

Sultan of Sokoto Urges Nigerians to Stop Criticizing Leaders and Allow God to Deal With Them

Nigerians have been urged to desist from castigating their leaders and all those in authority.

This call was made to Nigerians by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III on Monday at the the Regional Conference on Climate Change-Induced Conflicts in Northern Nigeria hosted in Kaduna.

According to the Sultan, it is important that Nigerians rather than insult their leaders, they should allow God to really with them.

He also urgee Nigerians to contibue praying for their keaders and tne nation as a whole.

He further called on religious leadera accros Nigeria to quit misleadinh members of ghwir congregation.

“A lot of people say we have never had it so bad, but no matter how difficult it is, ease will come. We believe nothing lasts forever.

“Nothing bad and nothing good lasts forever. Let us intensify prayers in our congregations and encourage our followers to pray for our leaders.

“We will not castigate them; we will allow Almighty Allah to deal with them as He wishes and He will,” the Sultan notes.

Breaking: Court Drops Charges Against Minors

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday struck out the charges brought against a total of 119 #EndBadGovernance protesters.

All 119 protesters were arraigned on Friday, November 1 on charges bordering on Treason felony, inciting to mutiny, among others.

The defendants were arraigned in two batches at the previous proceeding.

The first batch comprised a total of 76 protesters which included 32 minors and the second batch a total of 43 protesters.

The trial judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, struck out the suit following an application by the counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation, M. D Abubakar, to take over and discontinue the matter.
