In a recent development, Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu, a distinguished scholar in communication and cultural studies at Bayero University Kano, has called upon Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to initiate the establishment of a Town-Gown bridge and interface to streamline policy guidelines in Kano. This plea was articulated during an Iftar gathering organized by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which brought together journalists and labor unions at the Government House.

He particularly lauded the governor’s proactive approach in monitoring social media, emphasizing his authentic response to issues without resorting to staged reactions.

Professor Abdallah also stressed the significance of establishing a Town-Gown bridge and policy interface to foster collaboration between academia and governance.

During the event NLC Chairman Kabiru Inuwa said the Kano State Government (KNSG) has given 6,000 bags of rice as part of its efforts to alleviate food insecurity within the state through the NLC for distribution to workers.

In response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to modernizing the civil service. He emphasized the importance of an efficient civil service in facilitating the prompt implementation of policies and programs aimed at directly improving the lives of Kano residents.

The call for establishing a Town-Gown bridge and policy interface underscores the growing recognition of the need for closer collaboration between academic institutions and government bodies to address societal challenges and drive sustainable development in Kano and beyond.

“town-gown bridge” typically refers to a metaphorical or literal bridge built between a town or city and a university or college community. It symbolizes efforts to improve relationships, collaboration, and communication between the local community and the academic institution. These bridges can take various forms, such as partnerships in economic development, community service projects, or cultural exchanges. They aim to foster positive interactions and mutual benefits between the two entities.
