The Advocacy Centre for Development, a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting peace and good governance, has penned a letter to the Right Honorable Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, urging caution in the ongoing agitation surrounding the review of the law establishing newly created Emirates in Kano State.
In the letter,signed by its Executive Director Ibrahim Yusuf the NGO emphasizes the potential dangers of hastily responding to the calls to abolish the additional Emirates Councils.
Ibrahim Yusuf highlights the interconnectedness of Northern Nigerian states with Kano and stresses the moral right of residents to voice concerns regarding decisions affecting the region.
The organization expresses concern over the timing and potential repercussions of abolishing the additional Emirates, citing the need for careful consideration to avoid further polarization of traditional institutions and exacerbation of existing tensions in the state.
Furthermore, the NGO through Ibrahim Yusuf criticizes the actions of the former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for damaging the integrity of traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria. It cautions against succumbing to sentiments and urges the House of Assembly to exercise wisdom and maturity in addressing the issue.
The letter underscores the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Kano State, especially in light of recent political crises. It calls on the House of Assembly to prioritize the well-being of innocent citizens and avoid actions that may disrupt the relative peace enjoyed by residents.
