Kano State – Abdulhakeem Dayyab, the Program Office for Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health in Kano, provided insights into the progress made during the six-month briefing of the global-funded COVID-19 response mechanism program. This initiative collaborates with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to fortify healthcare systems and establishes community structures, addressing various health-related issues.
The program emphasizes working closely with community members, reinforcing health facilities, and addressing other dilapidated structures. Abdulhakeem highlighted the global funding supporting this initiative, underlining its commitment to strengthening the healthcare system in Kano.
Zahraddin Ahmad, representing Comrade Nuhu Tela on the State SSR team, expressed gratitude for the commendable efforts made by various communities. He emphasized the importance of fostering a sense of ownership among community members towards healthcare facilities.
Ahmad noted that changing the narrative around health facilities, making them feel as owned as mosques and churches, has been a crucial aspect of the program.
Halima Ibrahim Tahir, from the Ministry of Health, reported significant progress achieved during the program. The team successfully advocated for the importance of healthcare facilities, leading to improvements such as repairs to toilets and addressing damages to various health-related structures.
