In an emergency virtual meeting on Thursday, December 7, 2023, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) reviewed its recent activities and commended President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin for his effective leadership.
NEC encouraged all SWAN members to maintain professionalism despite challenges posed by the country’s economic situation. They assured members that the leadership would continuously seek partnerships to overcome obstacles.
During the meeting, NEC addressed the issue of Mohammad Mansour Ibrahim, a SWAN member involved in gross misconduct, announcing his indefinite suspension from all SWAN activities. Mansour’s actions were deemed to have brought disrepute to the professional body.
Mansour, a Kano State-based broadcaster, faced additional censure for various anti-professional actions. NEC emphasized that the suspension adhered to SWAN’s statutory provisions, directing Mansour to return all SWAN property/documents in his possession immediately.
In further decisions, NEC appointed Alhaji Rilwanu Idris Malikawa as SWAN National Ex-Officio, tasking him with coordinating SWAN activities in the North-west region. Additionally, NEC constituted a three-man Independent Investigation Committee led by Mallam Olayinka Owolewa to address the situation without bias.
The meeting was attended by various SWAN officials, including President Isaiah Benjamin, and notable decisions were made to uphold the association’s integrity.
