Comrade Muhammad Dawakin Kudu, Chairman of Progressive Youth for Anti-Stolen Vote (PYASV), addressed the press at the Kano Press Centre, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to fighting against stolen votes that undermine democracy and national development.
PYASV, a Civil Society Organization, decried the prevalent issue of stolen votes and electoral malpractices by politicians in the country.
Comrade Dawakin Kudu stressed the need for collaboration with progressive Nigerians, particularly the youth, to support the judiciary’s efforts in combating electoral fraud, ensuring the legitimacy of the electoral process.
Highlighting a recent example in Kano State, where the tribunal invalidated 165,663 votes due to lack of certification, stamp, signature, and date, PYASV praised the judiciary’s role in upholding the standards outlined by INEC.
The organization called on security agencies to join forces in curbing such malpractices, emphasizing the negative impact on national development and the future of democracy in Nigeria.
PYASV urged the progressive youth to actively support the development of the country and drew attention to the legal provisions that empower the judiciary to take action against those found guilty of electoral misconduct. The organization also raised concerns about the eligibility criteria for governorship candidates, citing Section 177 (c) of the Nigerian Constitution and recent court judgments.
In conclusion, PYASV emphasized the importance of judicial interventions to safeguard the electoral process, urging the youth to play an active role in preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.
