Kano State House of Assembly Passes 2023 Supplementary Budget of Over ₦58 Billion

In a legislative session held today at the Kano State House of Assembly, the 2023 supplementary budget was passed into law, marking a significant step forward for the state’s development initiatives. The plenary session, presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Jibril Ismail Falgore, saw the budget approved after thorough consideration in the Committee of the Whole.

The purpose of this supplementary budget is to create the necessary financial framework for the execution of additional impactful projects across the state, in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 (as amended). The executive governor transmitted the budget proposal to the House for review and approval.

The supplementary budget amounts to over fifty-eight billion Naira, with a significant allocation of ninety-two percent dedicated to capital expenditures and eight percent for recurrent expenditures. This adjustment increases the overall state budget to over three hundred and twenty-six billion Naira.

In a display of appreciation for civic responsibility and honesty, the House honored Auwalu Salisu DanBaba, a tricycle rider who returned lost money to its rightful owner. In recognition of his integrity, the House presented Mr. DanBaba with a commendation certificate and a sum of one million five hundred thousand Naira, contributed by honorable members.

Mr. DanBaba expressed his gratitude to the members of the House for their generous gesture, emphasizing that he would always remember their kindness. He offered his prayers for the House’s continued success in their deliberations.

During the same session, the House passed a resolution calling on the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to facilitate the swearing-in of Hon Aliyu Ibrahim as the Chairman of Bebeji local government area. This decision followed a report presentation by the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt Hon. Zubairu Hamza Massu, which received unanimous approval from the House.

In a statement signed by the House Chief Press Secretary Uba Abdullahi said the legislative session was adjourned, with plans to reconvene on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. This adjournment was proposed by the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Husaini Dala, representing Dala Constituency, and seconded by Hon. Garba Ya’u Gwarmai from Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency.
