KANO, NIGERIA – Non-governmental organization, Adolescent Health and Information Projects (AHIP), in collaboration with Christian Aid, has initiated a groundbreaking project called Gender Empowerment and Development Organizing Resource (GEADOR).

In an official statement released by Hajiya Mairo Bello, Director and Project Coordinator of AHIP, the project, titled ‘Inclusive Action for Adolescent Girls’ Education in Kano State,’ will be implemented in girls’ schools across two pilot local government areas, Nasarawa and Kano Municipal.

The primary objective of the intervention is to improve school retention and completion rates among adolescent girls, with the aim of achieving long-term developmental goals.

Bello emphasized that the ‘Inclusive Action for Adolescent Girls’ in Kano State represents a mechanism to ensure the active participation of vulnerable and marginalized groups. The initiative seeks to include these groups in decision-making processes that directly affect their lives, particularly in terms of education and opportunities for improved well-being.

Furthermore, Bello revealed that the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSMB) has approved the project’s implementation in seven schools: GGSS Festival Road, GGSS Hassana Sufi, GGSS Sharada, GGASS Gama, GGASS Gwagwarwa, GGSS Giginyu, and GGSS Gandun Albasa.

The implementation process involved thorough consultations with religious leaders, community representatives, traditional rulers, and other relevant stakeholders in Kano to ensure effective execution and support from all sectors of society.

AHIP, established in 1989, has been actively engaged in development programs for young people and women since 1992, with a particular focus on addressing health, social, and economic challenges faced by these groups, especially in Northern Nigeria.

The launch of the ‘Inclusive Action for Adolescent Girls’ Education in Kano State’ project marks a significant step forward in empowering young girls and promoting gender equality in education within the region
