CMPA’s anti-corruption project, the Nigeria Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting (NAPPR) Project 2023, has received a boost as the Technical Unit on Governance and Anti-Corruption Reforms (TUGAR) pledged its support. TUGAR, which was established by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, serves as the Secretariat of Nigeria Review of the United Nations Convention on Anti-Corruption.

The NAPPR project, funded by the MacArthur Foundation and implemented by CMPA, aims to conduct research on anti-corruption, advocacy, public engagement, and capacity development of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, civil society organizations, and media organizations. Its goal is to publish the first edition of a Harmonized Anti-Corruption Performance Report for 2017-2022.

During a recent visit to TUGAR, the project manager, Dr. Suleiman Amu Suleiman, highlighted the different components of the project, including research, advocacy, round table meetings with stakeholders, and training for anti-corruption agencies and the media. He also emphasized the importance of developing a harmonized template for reporting anti-corruption in Nigeria.

Dr. Suleiman thanked TUGAR for its support, particularly during data collection and other engagements, and encouraged the unit to identify gaps in the perception of citizens on the roles of anti-corruption agencies in the fight against corruption and confidentiality among government and members of the public.

The head of TUGAR, Jane Onwumere, reiterated the unit’s commitment to supporting the project and urged CMPA to continue to identify areas where it can strengthen anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria.

CMPA is an independent not-for-profit organization that focuses on anti-corruption, research, public policy analysis, transparency, and accountability to strengthen social, economic, and democratic governance
