Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) calls for professionalism and bold steps to tackle political thuggery/violence ahead and during the 15th April, 2023 supplementary elections in Kano State, especially at Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency.

In an open letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police Command, the KCSF expressed concern over the alleged intimidation, oppression, killings, and destruction of properties that occurred during the previous elections.

The KCSF, in partnership with the Organization for Community Civic Engagement (OCCEN), established the Kano Civil Society Elections Situation Room to help coordinate all relevant stakeholders in election management and ensure that civil society advocacy towards free, fair, transparent, credible, and peaceful elections are achieved.

The Kano Civil Society Situation Room received concerns from CBOs and community members in Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency, where there were alleged violations of human rights during the previous elections.

The KCSF urged the police to uphold the best practices of professional conduct to proactively address any likely recurrence of the 25th February, 2023 ugly incidences, where innocent souls were allegedly burnt to ashes.

The prime suspect in the 25th February incidence, who is also participating in the 15th April, 2023 supplementary elections under the APC, has been banned from entering Doguwa and Tudun Wada areas as one of the bail conditions granted to him by the court.

The KCSF reminded the police that no group or individual should be seen acting above the law, regardless of any political party affiliation or social background.
