2 Million Nigerian Children Could Die Of Pneumonia In The Next 10 Years-UNICEF

Nigeriain Children have demanded for more Government commitment to end pneumonia and other children killer deseases.

The children raised their voice at the Nuhu Sunusi Durbar ground to mark the celebration of the 2021 children’s day.

The disease is the leading killer of children in Nigeria, causing 19 percent of under-five deaths, which can be prevented.

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, over 2million children of under five will die of pneumonia in Nigeria in the next 10 years if adqeuate care is not taken.

It said boosting efforts to fight pneumonia could avert over two million child deaths from menace and other major diseases in country.

The children however demanded for more action from the government, community and religious leaders towards protecting and attained their full potentials.

Commissioner of Women Affairs, Jigawa state Hajiya Yalwa Da’u while addressing the children reiterated state Government’s commitments towards protection of children in the state.

The commissioner said the government is making effort to increase enrollment among out-of-school children in the state.

“state government is providing free education to children, school uniforms, books, and school feeding to all children in the state to ensure that children enroll in schools.”

She however urged school children to observe covid 19 measures to prevent themselves from contracting the virus.
