FG takes steps to end students mass failure of English language in Nigeria

Federal Government said it has taken steps to reduce the mass failure of English language among students in the Nigeria.

This followed the students mass failure in both English and Mathematics been recorded in both WAEC and NECO for years in the country.

Project Manager at Universal Learning Solutions Ms Pamela Cardillo, disclosed this at a three days Jolly Phonics training of English teachers organised by UBEC held at Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi primary school, Dutse.

She said the training is aimed at improving the reading and writing abilities of over 3.5 million children in the next two years.

Pamela explained that the Jolly Phonics is a fun and interactive teaching tool that uses the synthetic phonics literacy teaching methodology.

“The training will equip teachers with the expertise and tools required to enable them to improve reading and writing skills in English of ECCD, Primary 1, 2 and 3 pupils in Government Schools”

“UBEC have really recognised the tremendous impact that Jolly Phonics is giving on literacy levels in Jigawa government schools and have taken it on as one of their flagship programmes across the country”

Director Quality assurance State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Jigawa state Mal Hamisu iliya said Jigawa SUBEB and Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) are working in partnership on the Teacher Professional Development programme implementation to bring intensive training to the teachers.

He said the program is presently being carried out in Seven centers at 92 schools primary School across the state.

Iliya noted that the program will be expected across the state as it gives the children of Jigawa State a brighter future.
