The Hausa word, ‘WUF’, originally means doing fast or using opportunity quickly as suggested even in its sound which is germane to smashing one, hence it may take an exclamation mark. Doing something or using opportunity within the blink of an eye before any odd notices to take over, always to the surprise of the possible antagonist.

But etymologically, I cannot describe where the Hausa word, ‘wuf’ emanated from. But for sure, it is an ideaphone or it is too symbolic as already argue many linguists that, “10% of the language is iconic,” ie the sound of a word sounds, or the nature of an item looks like, or even takes after from what it stands to signify being a word.

Wuf: The New Marriage Strategy

The word recently evolved to develop or, metamorphose into the attitude of rich or elite mostly elderly women surprising people by taking young men for marriages.

The word is more than popular in the world of the Hausa social media. ‘wuf’ now goes with the marriages or relationships’ surprises especially, amidst modern youth who informally develop and spread the usage of the word everyday on social network platforms. A marriage between different social classes.

Those marriages interwoven in the complex culture and conservatism in the predominantly Muslim Hausa northern Nigeria are legal and sincere if not for the suspicious hidden intentions besides sincerity, can be considered a lawful and wedlock sugar mummism/sugar daddism.

The ‘WUF’ series film, attempts to capture those relationships and mirrors it to the public. It brings, from both religious and modern perspectives and approaches the issues to the light as in the Muslim dominated northern Nigeria.

When between the two wretched friends one discovers the other was already dating his mother, he angrily fights back for they often discuss how he wishes to find one rich worthless woman as ‘sugar mummy’.

They must become enemies, no gain saying, and they are bitter enemies in a day, while the old woman already fell in love with the son’s friend unknowingly, later knowingly. This is one of the main suspenseful conflicts out of the many in the film which the viewers would find themselves imbued to discover. It drags the viewers to climax up to the wonderful resolution.

Renowned singer, Hadiza Maikano is featuring and other wonderfully discovered as talented artistes.

The story idea is from a literary author/teacher, Hashim Abdallah, who is also the producer. Screenplay is by multiple awards receiver, creative writer, Jazuli Ya’u Hashim Malam-madori.
