The Association of Kano Online Journalists on Tuesday inaugurated its first Excos to pilot the affairs of the Association for the next two years.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Secretariat (NUJ), Kano Branch, Chairman of the association, Hisham Habib stated that the association will unite journalists working in the new media in the state under one umbrella.
He said, the association no doubt will also help in bringing orderliness which would help combat fake news and quackery in some sections of the New Media.
Metro Daily Nigeria Correspondent in Kano, Yakubu Salisu who emerged as the secretary of the Association after an election during the weekend was also inaugurated along side five others.
Other members of the excos are; Nazifi Dawud as Vice Chairman (Daily Focus), Abbas Yusha’u Yusuf , Ass. Secretary (Nigerian Tracker), Zainab Mai agogo as Treasurer (Kakaki24), and Muhammad Buhari Abba as the Auditor (Labarai24).

Barrister Abba Hikima who conducted the inauguration ceremony admonished the executive members on the need to adhere strictly to the constitutions of association.
He said as Excos, much is expected of them and to move the association forward, it is expected of every official to strive in giving his and her best for the growth of the Association.
Also, he reminded that the promise and declaration which they’ve made must not be taken as a joke as it is now official and legally binding on them.
Hikima applauded the move which he said will help in reducing if not completely stamping out the menace of fake news in the new media now that professional journalists whom have worked in various conventional media homes before now have registered their presence in the online media.
Lastly, Barr. Abba wished the association and the new inaugurated leaders success in all their endeavors.
