A Medical Entomologist with Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano Dr Mustapha Ahmed Yusuf has urged patients with diabetic foot to desist from moving around from one hospital to another or one herbalist to another inorder to reduce the deterioration of the condition of the affected foot.
Dr Mustapha disclosed during an interview with media correspondents in the hospital.
Explaining that barely a month to the commencement of maggot therapy in the hospital it has been discovered that most patients with diabetic ulcers who came to the hospital presented with 4th_5th grade level of the Diabetes ulcers which is the highest stage when put on the wagner classification grade of the Diabetes ulcers.

He said that the main aim of maggot therapy is to achieve debridement process within a shortest possible period , reduce the long stay on the hospital bed as well as the financial spending.
He call on all diabetic patients that start witnessing wounds on the foot to quickly come to the hospital where it can be treated and get healed within a short time without any part of the lymphs been removed.
In a statement by Hauwwau Abdullahi said On other chronic wounds that stays for months or years on the legs and other part of the body Dr Mustapha said that most of such wounds are not cancers as they are normally referred by the public as they can be treated as well using maggot therapy to remove all the dirt/bacteria that prevented it from healing to pave way for skin grafting by the plastic Surgeons or allow it to heal by itself.
