Academics, Journalists, Trained On Dead Body Management

The International Committee of Red Cross ICRC has trained over 25 security personnel, journalist, and those from the academia cycle on the management of the dead body.

 

The Head of ICRC Kano Office Zeljko Lezajia disclosed this at a two-day capacity training held in Kano.

 

Zeljko Lezajia says the Management of Dead body program was organized to train different security personnel on the importance of the management of dead Bodies adding that this will make them act responsibly while dealing with dead ones.

 

He said the handling of mortal remains with dignity is essential to protect the identity of the dead people.

Mr. Lazajia said at the end of the Dead Body Management program the participants are expected to contribute immensely especially during a natural disaster, conflict, and other emergencies before, during, and after the COVID 19 pandemic.

 

Earlier, an ICRC Forensic specialist Mr. Juan Manuel Guerrero said during the outbreak of COVID 19 many countries around the globe were not prepared enough to handle many numbers of fatalities.

 

Mr. Guerrero explained that part of their humanitarian mandate is to support the authority’s ways of handling mass fatality incidents.

 

“We know here in Nigeria with  COVID 19 incident yet there are many scenarios when such incident happened and we want support authorities to handle such like situation in a professional manner especially handling the issues of Dead Body

 

In a remark, the commander-general of Kano state Hisbah board Haroon Muhammad Sani Ibn-Sina while declaring the occasion open said the board is known for rendering Service and dead body management.

 

Haroon Ibn-Sina who speaks through Deputy commander research and documentation Jamilu Lawal Ajiya said the Hisbah board being a critical stakeholder in the management of dead body will ensure his personal trained their colleagues who have not privileged of being part of the session.

 

The participants on Dead Body Management training were drawn from Kano state Hisbah Board, Nigeria Army, Navy, police, educational sector, and the journalist.
