At a time when many Hausa men keep marrying and divorcing women, simply because Islam has given them chance to marry as many as four wives a time, they hardly realise that they are giving up on the upbringing of the children they bare in those failed marriages.
Some of the men, only spend few years or months with the wives and when they separate, the women are left with the burden of custody of the children, who are brought up mostly by the single mothers with the help of their relatives if any.

This is exactly what the famous Gidan Badamasi series was advocating, although many people considered it to be just a mere comedy series.
Although the series drama broke boundaries by being a lengthy comedy series, there were secret messages embedded into it, thus presenting it as a mere comedy, especially that the Director has been famous for Directing comedy dramas within the Kannywood film industry.
The head of the household in the drama, was a rich man who married various women and had many children from different mothers of course.
Although presented to be rich, his many children seemed to have never had a chance to enjoy his abundant wealth, until a certain time when the old man fell ill and they converged to the house in bits.
On knowing his state of health, the children who were mostly away from him and hardly knew each other, came to enjoy or rather forcefully obtain their share of their father’s cake.
It was clear that all the children had different kind of upbringing and in such circumstance were all hunting for the wealth with or without their father alive.
So the drama was a warning signal for people to utilize their youth and wealth to train their children, because at some stage in life, they may need the support, empathy and of course the love and care of the children they bare, especially if the children also received compassion and kind treatment from the parents while they were growing up.
While awaiting the next season of the drama series, we are optimistic that the rich Alhaji, will learn his mistake and seek forgiveness from the children he had abandoned. Unless the Director takes us on a jolly ride elsewhere.
