Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action(PRAWA) a nongovernmental organization in partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Service, Prison Fellowship of Nigeria carried out a road walk/sensitization campaign on awareness creation for acceptance of ex-inmates back to their communities as part of the Yellow Ribbon Project in Kano,
The sensitization walk according to Kaltume Muhammad Oborien starts from the Kano medium Security custodial center to the Government house roundabout in Kano state.
Kaltume Oborien said the objectives of the walk is To create awareness of ex-inmates to be given a second chance to start a new life and To inspire community action to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of ex-inmates back to the community.
According to Kaltume the walk also creates awareness on the need to stop stigmatizing ex-inmates and their families.
she said the walk also called on the private sector, a faith-based organization to provide job opportunities for ex-inmates and to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Nigerian Correctional services Act, 2019.
PRAWA’s objectives among others focus on corrections and promotions of the Reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders and provide an enabling platform for the implementation of non-custodial measures in Nigeria.
