Update on “yarinya mai rajin karatu”
Sequel to the deluge of positive commentaries and offers of assistance that followed the sharing of an emotional picture of Aisha in which she was captured reading a book while frying “Awara”, a successful search was conducted today by the trio of Aliyu Bashir Almusawi, Badamasi Aliyu Abdullahi and Bashir Shu’aibu Jammaje.
Aisha was located, she was found frying “Awara” at Tal’udu Roundabout along Kabuga Road, Kano.
The search team met and had a chat with Aisha and her elder brother.
She is a JSS III student of a public school who attends her classes with passion.
She fries and sells “Awara” to make ends meet: use the little profit she earns to help her struggling parents and save enough to sponsor her education.
She lacks proficiency in the English Language hence resorts to reading Hausa books while she fries “Awara”. Nonetheless, she’s willing to learn English and read books collections to get energized as she searches for enlightenment.
Her parents are committed to supporting her academic pursuits.
I and Bashir Almusawi will visit Aisha’s family in the coming days to assess her schooling needs, develop a plan and budget for her education as well as draw a roadmap to support the girl to actualize her dream of attaining scholarship.
Ibrahim Sany Sanyi and Colleagues
We will determine the need for either public fundraising or other channels to finance her education. You shall be duly informed on the next steps after our visit.
Girls in Kano are known to have excelled in Frying ” Awara” in the evening to earn a living and support their parents, but what draws people’s attention was Aisha’s quest for education as she combines the two, reading and performing her occupation.
In northern Nigeria is the region where girl child education is facing a setback especially in the rural areas.
