COS Presents letter of Appointment to BUK’s New VC
Professor Ibrahim Gambari, the chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari has presented a letter of appointment to the Newly elected Vice-Chancellor (VC)of Bayero University Kano, Professor Sageer Adamu Abbas.
Professor Ibrahim Gambari who is the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Bayero University governing council said ‘’by the powers conferred on the governing council by section 4 of the universities amendment act 2003, at its meeting held on Saturday, August 8th, 2020, considered the submission from the selection board and hereby approves your appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano for a period of five years from Tuesday 18th August 2020.

The letter which was signed by Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari said the condition of service, including remunerations ad fringe benefits shall be as approved for Vice-Chancellors in Federal Universities.
On the fifth of August, Professor Sageer Abbas won the university’s congregation parley with over 1 thousand votes.
The current VC Professor Yahuza Bello will bow out as the 10th VC of the University following the expiration of his five-year tenure which started in August 2015 after succeeding in the present Executive-Secretary of the National Universities commission Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed who was preceded by former INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Muhammad Jega.

Bayero Unversity had a history of keenly contested elections to the post of Vice chancellorship due to its position and fame in Nigeria and African countries in General.
In the 2005 ranking of the National Universities Commission, Bayero University Kano emerges the best University in Nigeria by coming above board first generation Universities like the Ahamdu Bello University Zaria and Universities of Nigeria Nsukka and Ibadan.
Close associates of Nigerian former leaders once aspired to lead the University but their dreams have never been fulfilled.
When there was an option for the second term some prominent scholars who once led the university and dreamt of leading it for two terms could not be realized.
The position of VC chancellor is seen by many as very influential and maybe a ladder for connection.
